Been trying to make discs ... you know the kind that are skinny and tall and have multiple layers of colors.
Mine seem to end up fat and squished down.
Didn't there used to be something called a disc squisher?
Am I just melting too much?
The flatteners I have are too big to squeeze it "tall" ... do I just need smaller mashers?
Thanks
Cheryl

These help:

But what helps is to stay to the right of the flame and just below it. (Flash the bead often though.)
Here is what I do:
I make a tiny footprint first. Just enough to look like a 3 or 4mm spacer bead. Then I lightly squish it with the tweezer mashers linked below. This chills it enough to keep the glass from growing out on either side and making your footprint bigger. I wind on glass in the disc shape and if it distorts or starts to fatten I do another round of light squeezes to disc it up again.
Now if you want the discs that look like coils you can still do the footprint the same way but you are going to have to find the right spot to heat the rod, the right pace to wind and practice, practice, practice.
