starter colors

What's the best sample color boro pack? Northstar, Glass Alchemy, borostix, etc. or should i just buy the colors i like? Borostix from generations seems to be the best buy on individual colors (at least from my research).

Glasscraft has a cheap starter set, but for the weight of glass you're getting it costs a little under double if i bought them individually!! it's a pain in the arse to order 1 of every color (and im sure it is for the vendor as well) so i can get around paying double price...

I just want some experimentation colors to play with while i learn the properties of boro.

Does anyone have any ideas or maybe some odds they'd sell me for a reasonable pirce? (i dont have paypal, but could mail a money order)

PS: im using pyrex clear tube and rod (if it matters for compatibility). WaleApp had a sale on it.

I'm sure you'll get answers in the boro room, but I thought I'd toss this out:

Brent "Mr. Smiley" here LE sometimes has shorts that are for sale. They're a pretty decent price. They're not marked or anything, but would give you an idea of what you could want to start to look for...

I soooo want the borostix....I'm waiting for glow-joe's website to show them in stock again for the "big" sampler (the $40 one with "one of each" :lol:) 'cause I'm in love with the colors & the cute little "stix" since I read an article about them in the Flow....(seriously, I swear that's the *real* reason I got brave enough to try boro--that article had all these gorgeous *rainbow* pictures around it!!)

I got a 5 lb bag from him for $50 not sure if it included shipping. I have one in the garage sale section (http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158058) but I used about a pound of it. Also I have a few assortments of striking/reduction boro colors in there. Some in longer lengths and some that are shorts that you would need to punty up to.

hermmm....well ill keep the shorts bag in mind then. thank you for the replys...im getting some freebees (thanks to a very special LE-er) and am also ordering the borostix sampler since it's only 20 bucks...i may never melt them and only set them next to each other to see how the colors look together for my pieces..haha.

I'm pretty sure i wont be able to resist though. ill melt them like ive never melted color before (*drum set* ba da pish)[get it? bc i havn't melted color before, bwhahaha]
