I have a 10 year old tool box kiln that I need to replace the coil on. I have gotten the old one out and have the new one almost in but it's a bit long but will go into the glass tube and it fits back into the kiln. The ceramic rods that insulate the wires stick out a bit into the box on the side, there are then 2 old metal screw type connectors where the wires from the inside meet the wires that attach to the infinite control switch. Anybody see a problem if I change the metal type screws and use newer twist wire connectors? Maybe because of the high heat in the kiln? Also the wires stick out alot and I know I need to trim them. Should I trim so that they fit just long enought to go into the screw connectors?

Help.... I miss my kiln....

No screw connectors, go to any electric shop and get screw down crimps.
Your OK to cut the twisted ends off close, just so they stick out of the ceramic insulators enough to put on the conectors.

Are screw down crimps the same as the screw nuts you would use when changing a light fixture or plug? If not, Can I get the screw down crimps at Lowe's or HD? Don't know of an electric shop but maybe I just don't know where to look.

The overall issue is heat. Thus anything plastic such as plastic wire nuts will melt.

You could try a split bolt depending on if the connections are in a box or not. The other option is a high temp crimp connection. It is just a hollow tube and a pair of vice grips can be used to crimp on the two leads.

Check with an electrical shop if you need to insulate the connection. There is fiberglass tape and perhaps some other high temp insulation solutions.
