Sweep them up and drop the frit in a bowl of water. Once it settles to the bottom, pour off the water and then spread the frit out on a tray to dry. That should get most of the dust and hair out of it. ;)

But....If there isn't too much crud in there, if it were me, I'd leave it just like it is...it kind of fades from blues and greens to reds and yellows (which I like!) and try rolling a base bead across to pick up the color spectrums. Of course, if this is on the floor (I'm thinking/hoping it's on your bench!) that's a different story...

I have such a messy table that if I spill frit on the back or side sections, it's gone and good for the trash can. I have way too many fragments of mixed COEs all over plus bits of bead release.

I use only one frit at a time, or if I use more than one occasionally, I keep it in little gravy boats. Right next to my torch on the right side for easy access. When I'm done with the frit and ready to move on to the next, I dump it back into its container and take the gravy boat outside to tap it on the wall and wipe it clean with a dry cloth. I suppose over the next 50 years or so of doing that, I might end up having a somewhat sparkly fritty flower bed. ;)

I like the gravy boats and making sure there is no way I will contaminate the frits with others and bits of crap from the table. Occasionally I will find chunks of shattered rods in the gravy boats of frit. I pick those out with tweezers.

Maybe all that sounds anal...oh well. LOL

I put my frit in SS chinese soup spoons....works well until you chase a cat off the (fortunately cold) bench....and she steps on the handle of the spoon in her flight.

I never have more than a teaspoon of frit out at one time. I use the teaspoon (stainless measuring spoon) for rolling my round beads. If I am doing a long bead I sprinkle a little on a marver. The rest goes right back in the jar. I have cantilevered the teaspoon into a frit confetti fest.

I do have powders and enamels in mini muffin tins, the half dozen size, but small amounts that I apply with a baby spoon. (Yes I have great ventilation and they are covered when not in use.)

I did the same thing but with a container of micro-marbles that I had just made (and a hard floor). They bounce and ROLL! Never did find them all—they still turn up from time-to-time.

I've also done that with a large bottle of bead release with the lid not screwed back on. OH BROTHER! ](*,)

Im not sure how full the tray was before you got creative nor do i know how you use such a tray of frit, or if it didn't spill how it is stored? But I use glass spice jars from the world market place (a store), and they rock. I normally work straight out of the glass jar and just place the top on it when I'm done applying frit. I just assume that a frit tray like that would be prone to dust and the likes which is a no go for me.

OMG that is a total disaster. I'd try the idea of putting it in water and seeing what you can salvage. I'm so sorry you had to have that happen. Maybe you can make lemon-aide out of lemons and have a great new frit.
