It's one of those strange twists of life. One of the kids on our local program lived across the street from my office manager. He had Ewing's sarcoma. I'd made a special bead for him and tracked his progress for a good while. He lost his battle and passed quietly on Friday night. He was a big Red Sox fan and I made a special butterfly bead for his mom tonight that included that concept. It's always hard to lose one of our kids.

Robert,
There are no words to say how sorry I am that a child has lost this battle. Just know that you are not alone in your caring.
Hugs,
Sue
Robert, I am so very sorry. ((hugs)) It's always so hard because these kids are incredibly brave and become a part of your heart. There were two very special kids I had a connection with who passed within days of each other and the news was like a sucker punch to the gut each time. I still have the sweet letter from one of them on my desk.
Your beads will honor their memory and will help to comfort their family in the years to come. You are one of the good guys Robert and I know you made a difference in his life.

Robert, I am so sorry! One of the things they always tell us when we start working in the hospitals is "don't get attached.." They just don't know what they are talking about. How do you not and remain human, compassionate? It's that compassion that makes you so good at what you do. Cherish what that small life brought you and know that you brought him so much more!

One of the hazards of making special beads is that it does create a different sort of bond. This isn't the first and unfortunately won't be the last that I've lost like this. You always hope that it'll be OK. I keep making special beads and regular beads to bring a little light in where I can.
Thanks much to all of you who help us continue even when it's a sad day.

My heart goes out to you and their family, Robert. I know that they had to be truly blessed by your connection with them, your special beads for their child and the wonderful butterfly bead you made. I hope you have one for yourself as well, in his memory.
Big hugs to you.

Robert, my thoughts go out to you and to that child's family. Its always hard to lost someone close to you; an associate, a friend or a family member.
The up side to this is that he can now meet and talk baseball with all the Red Sox greats that have passed on before him!

Robert, what a beautiful bead. I am so sorry to hear of the Child's passing. It is a bittersweet task you have undertaken, but you do so much good and comfort so many.
Hugs to you and the family.

Robert
Just last weekend my group got together and made beads to send.
We had a great time and fellow shipped and enjoyed each others company. But your story brings it home. I am just so sorry. I am battling BC and it has been a long road. But I am an adult, I can reason, be strong but for a child to go thru this I am so saddened. Stacy
