The local welding supply guy says an acetelyne torch regulator would work on my propane tank? They don't carry a regulator specifically for propane tanks. Is this true or do I need to track down one made specifically for propane tanks?

okay. I am going to pick up the needed supplies this afternoon. My cricket came today and I am so excited I can't stand it lol. Also a wee bit terrified of blowing myself to bits.

Good li and have fun. If you feel uncomfortable you can always check out the safety thread

This is an example using a typical acetylene regulator on a 2-1/2 gallon propane tank with flashback.

Okay good that is the one I picked up. When you disconnect do you disconnect in front of the regulator or disconnect where the regulator meets the tank?

It all depends on which parts you want to wear out first. Either would work, but the larger connection would have less wear and be less likely to cross thread.

You also may want to consider a quick disconnect after the regulator and prior to the flashback.

hmmm quick disconnect sounds like the way to go.
