Gas bottle near hot water system

Hi All

I hope someone can tell me if i can store my gas tank outside near my gas hot water system(running the hose under the door there is a big gap).

I have tried to find alternatives so not to put it down this side of the house but really there is no other way.

I kind of like my house so was wondering if anyone storing their bottles outside near the gas system, will this be safe??? the bottle will probably be about 8-10 feet away.

As long as the propane tank is outside, you are fine. But what is a gas hot water system?

I am in australia so we might call them something different over here.

A gas hot water system uses gas to heat the water in our house, its outside mounted on the wall and i know it has a pilot light inside(which is why i was worried bout the tank being close), thats the most technical answer i can give you.

I think i better go find out how the hot water system actually works, you have got me wondering now:biggrin:

Oh! Ok - I thought it was a heating system for your whole house - similar to hydronic heat.

I would not worry about it at all. As I said, as long as the propane tank is outside, even if there was a leak, the air currents would carry it away and there would not be any massive amount of gas to create an explosive mixture.
