for me!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son is in an advanced business applications class and has to design a "real" web site for a business and he suggested he do it for me. I feel like I need to take him up on it, tho I don't sell my work besides locally I may want to at some point.
What I need is information on where to get an inexpensive domain.
Any suggestions? TIA, Valerie

you can go to yahoo.com I think it is about 10yr. Or you can go to godaddy.com for about 9$ yr. That is for domain name registration.

Storage - how much space you have to store your pages. Like disk space on your hard drive. 5000MB is a BUNCH. I've never come close to using 1/10 of that much space.

Transfer - refers to how much bandwidth you can use. Every time someone visits your web page, that uses bandwidth. The more visitors, the more bandwidth. 250GB is a TON of bandwidth. Again, I never even come close on my pages.

The other is self explanitory...

Valerie,
The domain is what you will be called. Usually about $10 per year.

Then the hosting is where the page is stored. It has to be stored someplace that is always on. So for most people, they pay someone to host. (Simple terms here. ;) ) That is available from Go Daddy, 1 on 1 (?) and others.

Often times you can register the domain and host at the same place. The domain registration might include an e-mail address, but the hosting probably will.

Then you can be (for example) www. valerieslovelies .com and have an e-mail of valerie @ valerieslovelies.com.

Does that help?
Nancy

I forgot. I read here once that not all hosts allow you to have a business from your site. (No clue if this is true or not.) Just something you might look for in the fine print before you pick your host, just in case.

Yup, I agree. My son just turned 14, I'm just waiting for him to take some computer classes to help pull his 'ol Mom out of the dark ages. . . (sigh)
