Brass rods as mandrels??

I am wondering if I willhave problems using 1/4" brass rod as mandresl for drawyer pull Knobs instead of stainless. Any experience with using brass as mandrels?

You don't want to hold on to them for sure. Brass is a very good conductor or heat.... ouchie...

Plus, brass does bad, scary things when you put it in the flame. Fireworks!

Got too hot to handle. I'll try to find some stainless tomorrow. Hopefully the welding shop in town will have some. Thanks all for the help.
