If I use EDP and it scums up, as it likes to do, will etching it remove the scum?
Thanks!

With EDP after you form the bead you have to reheat the whole thing evenly in the flame to burn off the devit that you get working with it. Then you put it right in the kiln. If you let it cool and reheat the devit will come back and you just reheat the whole bead and burn it off again. EDP is a little tricky at first but once you get used to it it's an awesome color to play with. As far as I know you cannot remove the devit with anything other than the flame.

On the other hand, EDP looks great etched

I have not worked with EDP other than couple times, but the first bead I ever sold was made with it, and it looked like it was etched. I was so new in lampworking, I did not know how it even happened, but suddenly my bead got this satin look to it. I would not say it scummed, cause the whole bead got the satin look, not just the EDP. And I am not sure if we are talking about the same phenomenom here. But if I could recreate that, I would use it to my advantage. Sounds familiar? Anybody know what did I do to it to make that happen?

This is the bead... picture is not very good, it was actually taken with the scanner... but since the bead got sold, I cant get any better. Ok, the bead could be better too, but it was one of the first ones I ever did. So it is totally satin, but not etched, its all because of the EDP...
I like the etched ones, but the effect without actually etching just surprised me.

It devitted and affected all the colours around it. Most of the time it doesn't look so good

I actually like the devit, too. Etched, they're wonderful!

It's hard to get devit evenly dispersed sometimes like you did. Not something you can totally control. You should try it again and see if you can get it all over again.

so this is what people call devitted... I see. Thanks!
