Hi all. I bought my ox con a few weeks ago and it is a devilbiss 5liter with less than 500 hours on it. I have put about 150 hours on it in the last 2 weeks..
Anyway, when I turned it on a few nights ago I let it run for the initial 20 minutes and at the end of that time I tried to start my torch and it blew out my propane flame- I shut it off and let it run for 20 more minutes and it started screeching at me. "service needed" I checked the reset button, checked my cords, checked my filters- all looks fine. Someone else PM'd me about a fuse- I cant find one.
About a day before that I got a "low oxygen" warning and then it went away.
I have a bit left in my tank but I dont think it will last until Monday. I did get a 1 year warranty with my ox con but it isnt helping me during non business hours. Anybody have any suggestions?
It is a devilbiss 515ds
My only suggestion is to contact the company you bought it from. It should still be under warranty if you've only had it two weeks.

Duh, should have read your post more carefully. Sorry, I can't think of anything obvious that would be causing the problem!

#1 when you adjust your oxy to light your torch do you turn it all the way off or leave it cracked just a tiny bit?
#2 when it screeched at you was the oxy knob turned off on your torch?

#1- turn it all the way off.
#2- no it was not it was open and going through the initial startup that the seller told me to do (let it run for 20min with the torch open to build up the ox)

Does it have a battery anywhere? I had an older model that needed a battery replaced for some reason. It was a 9 volt. Maybe it worked the alarm or something I don't know.

Not that I can see.. MAn this sucks!
What's the temp in your studio? My Devilbiss will NOT run if it's less than 50 degrees... it starts to come on and then it shuts off and just beeeeeeeeeeeps at me.

cold! Probably less than 50 degrees with the window open... how do i fix that???? I guess I could put a space heater in there but once I start torching it warms right up!

it could very well be the cold my concentrators do not work well when its cold we put a heater inbetween them to keep them warm. I know my concentrators will alarm if I close off the oxy valve on my torch the back pressure causes it to alarm and sometimes shut them off entirely.

I will try a heater tonight and see how that goes. Thanks!! Yes mine frequently reminds me to open my torch when I forget.

One suggestion if it is the cold causing the problem. I have my concentrators in an adoining heated room. I cut a small hole in the wall for the hoses and it comes out right through to my bench. That way the concentrators are always in a non-humid, heated area even though I may not be.
Just a thought if that might help...

I moved the concentrator to the kitchen (heated) and it still did it. The LPM will not change but it screeches at me. I had to unplug the hose to the torch to move it but it still should have no effect. I guess I will try to call again tomarrow.

The first thing you should do tomorrow is call the company you purchased the concentrator from. If you have a 1 year warranty, they should walk you through trying to find out what the problem is, then if you cannot get it working, they should issue you a call tag to have it picked up and send you another one...right away.

so you turn the machine on, and it just stays in alarm, and the flow meter doesnt indicate any flow? Do you feel air coming from the bottom of the machine from the cooling fan? Do you hear the machine running even though its alarming?

when I turn on the concentrator, after 20 min the alarm sounds. There is still a reading of 4lpm on the thingy.. I feel air coming out of the hole (where it is supposed to come out of) The machine is still running even with the alarm sounding but the OSD says "service required" That is about as good as I can describe it.

It has to be in a warm space long enough to heat to room temperature all the way through... perhaps you can leave it in the kitchen overnight and try again tomorrow?

i will try anything to get this to work! LOL Maybe I will try it in a few minutes. It has been in a heated room for about 3 or 4 hours now. I dont understand this! I just hope that heat is all it is. I would HATE to be without it for a few weeks while it is sent in! :(

Me again,
the guy did tell me to use a hairdryer to warm it from the bottom before I turn it on (if under 50) I did have to do that twice and it seemed to work.
Sorry, I didn't know you were in an unheated area before when I pm'd you.
That may be what is going on. Also, you may want to get a quick connect if you have to keep moving it in to the house. Those plastic connections weren't made to for the off and on of a hose. I did that and it seems to be a lot less work for me too. I like the idea of running the hose from inside the house to avoid this pain, though!! thanks, starfield!!

This is what I did to move both my concentrators inside to a non-humid, temp controlled enviorment. Find a spot that will keep the hose as short as possible.
Drill a hole in the wall and go to the home improvement store buy 2 flip up covers. (I think they are supposed to cover cable connections or AC outside)
I put one on each side of the wall. (this just keeps things pretty and covers up an ugly hole)
I ran the electrical cord and the hoses through so I can turn off the concentrators in an emergency. Note: I cannot turn mine ff and on by the AC cord or the alarm will sound. I have to go to the unit and flip the on/off switch after power is applied. You'll figure that part out real fast :)
It's not hard to do and works great!
Any questions just e-mail or pm me!

Sounds like either alow pressure alarm, or the oxygen purity is too low.

well, he said it is a bad valve or something so he is sending out a new one. Very very cool guy!!!
hobbiesforus.com if anyone is interested. I got one with under 500 hours (300hrs)for 290$ with shipping- of course it broke in 2 weeks but with his ebay feedback I dont suspect it happens often and he was on the ball with getting it fixed.

Did you clean the filter???? It's just usually a little piece of sponge/foam the gets dirty....just a thought. I clean mine about every other week.

filters look like new and yep I cleaned them anyway. Jay (the seller) is pretty sure that a valve is broken.
