I have split purchases with several people to sample various colors etc. How does everyone label there rods once the package or wrap is opened?

I do Brand, # then color. I abbreviate.
ex) Effetre, #254, edp
or DH, terranova 2.1
I use white long stickers used for labeling.

I write directly on the rod (if it is a light enough color) with a sharpie or I put a swipe of whiteout on the rod and write on that.
I put all the rods that are the same colour together with a rubber band, and make sure I label at least one of the rods.
My labeling system is three letters for manufacturer, the name of the colour and then any extra info if it seems important.
i.e. TAG Dalai Lotus EXP, VET Smoke Rings ODD, EFF Dk Aqua

I write info on a small piece of paper and then tape it to the end. Sharpies wear off and sticky labels come off when its cold.
I also make sure to always add the date as color batches can be very important later.

I have been trying to discipline myself to label all rods whenever I get new glass. I have some standard colors I know and leave in a rubber band bundle. But because I have differetn Coe's and brands I really try to do this label thing. I just don't want to mix them up.
The expensive silver glass can look like many blues and blacks of other brands and coes.

I just wrap the rods in an elastic hair band, then write mfg, mfg #, and color on a thin white label and wrap around one of the rods. I label them when I open the box, before I put them away....otherwise it doesn't get done!

Masking tape around the rod and stuck together to make a tab to write on .

If you are labeling a LOT of glass at one time like I do, the easiest thing is to use MS Word to print the labels and use this type of label
http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Labels/Addressing-Labels/Easy-Peel-White-Address-Labels_05160.htm?N=4294967290&Ns=Rank|0||Product%20Number|1&refchannel=b3e659baa4c2a110VgnVCM1000002118140aRCR D
It has a crease in the backing - you bend it back and the edge of the entire row of labels pops up so you don't have to try and peel back a corner.
I print my labels so I can spiral wrap them so no printing is covered and no pieces stick up - it all lays flat on the rod, does not peel up when it freezes and comes off nicely when I get to the end. I just peel the label off, dip the end in my bowl on the table and the adhesive comes right off.
I usually labels 10 to 15 pounds at a time, so I need a fast system - and this works great.

I have a ton of regular address labels, so I use a smaller print and cut the labels and wrap them around the rod.
When I run out I will purchase smaller labels so I don't have to cut them and save time. I do label every rod.
I use the blue painter's tape because it comes off easier and doesn't leave any sticky crap behind.

I use the small Avery labels, write the color number on the number of labels that correspond with the number of rods of each color. I wrap them around the end of each rod with clear tape over the labels. I got tired of the labels coming off, or tearing off, when using the larger sizes. Takes a bit of time, but it is worth it. When the rods get short, I stick the label into my water dish and the label rolls of after a short soak.

I use the Avery return address labels - I have COE (big and bold) - brand (E, V, R, C etc), Name, number (I'm obsessive about the numbers lol), date of purchase and place of purchase. The labels come off easily in a tub of water.
I've learnt the hard way that I need to do this. I always regret it when I don't.
