okay, I had a mad scientist night and played my heart out..
Some questions..

1. Light silver plum- I dont get it... I tried it with silvered ivory, I tried a reduction flame, I tried an oxidizing flame, all I got was a dark purple with a bit of silvery tone around the edges by the mandrel..What am I doing wrong?

2. Red copper green- tried the same as above but for a second it turned the red color around the ivory, then I stuck in the flame and it went away.. Tried to reduce it again and tried anything else I could think of and I am left with a bead that is turquoise in the center, then a light sagey green, then around the mandrel it is the red color.

3. Copper green- For a split second this turned an AWESOME goldish silver color ( i was working on the bead next to it and when I pulled out of the flame it was like that) and I went to warm it back up and it went away. I am left with almost a light turquoisey green with the goldish silver around the hole.

4.Red roof tile- wow that sure is purty!

5. Vetro odd dark pink- yeah, whatever. I see no pink only a light light lavender

6.Carnelian Pink- looks like crap encased after it has been spotted with silver leaf. The silver looks white.

7.Raku- I cant make a set of boobs on a goddess to save my life!

I think that is it for now.LOL Any comments, suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!!!

1. nothing. it's a light purple. It doesn't HAVE to do anything.

2..I can't get any red out of it either except inside of the hole. lol

3. Yeah, it's a pretty turquoisy green and that is what most people want from it. They don't want the copper smutz, but I like it.

4. I know

5. It's hard to get the pink. Use an oxy rich flame and let the bead cool down then flash it in and out a bit.

6. I don't do the carnelian.

7. LOL So they are flat chested goddesses. More Diana than Venus.

I think it has silver in it. The dark does the silvery thing more than the light so I imagine it has more silver in it or something.

Sometimes the reactive glasses just don't do their "thing" when you want them to and then do do it when you don't.

Hi,
Just my 2 cents on the Red Copper Green. I have found that your beads look green still after annealing and cooling....until you etch them. Then the green goes revealing the red tones underneath.
I made a set yesterday with Dark Ivory as the base with RCG stringer design, a few turned out with red stringer work but with a green line down the middle....it looks really cool.
Hope this helps!

I never had to do anything special with either light or dark silver plum it just does it's thing. Maybe just flash it in the upper part of the flame. You watch, now that I said that I won't be able to get it to do a darn thing. LOL

Red Copper Green-try either encasing it or even better, IMO, put some dribs and drabs of clear here and there, you can get 2 colors for the price of one, reddish and green. Good with silver, some dabs of transparents...I don't use it too much. Too $$$.

To get the metalic look from the plums you flash it through an oxy rich flame. Thank you Maureen Kenedy for that one. I use to use fuel rich but the oxy rich is like magic.

Carnelian should be called salmon. I get a range of pink to salmony orange with it. I wouldn't encase it, just let it do its thing.

1. I can help with this one! I use the silver plums as stringers. Don't worry if you get no silver looking stuff after you melt it in. Let your bead cool off, then flash it high in the flame. This will bring the silver to the surface. I'm using a minor with a neutral flame.

2. & 3. This looks great if you encase parts of it and leave others in the air. You will get different colors in the encased v.s. unencased part.

1. I don't usually have to do much to get this to give silvery effects. Work it in an oxy rich flame, not too hot. If you put it in a neutral or reducing flame you will ose the silver. If you work it a LONG time in an oxy flame, the silver will begin to give you a matte effect. Sometimes nice, sometimes not. Dark Silver Plum is much easier to get effects from and the effects are stronger.

2.Red Copper Green. Each batch is a little different. To retain the most red, work it cool and do not allow it to get really hot. The red you get from reducing it is a little different than the red you get from working it cool, imho. I really love this glass.

3. Don't know much about the goldish color you saw. I need to go experiment!!! The light turquoisey green is the color of the glass. Very pretty. Try some Copper Green dots with Dark Transparent Sage over.

4. Yes, it is.

5. Odd Dark Pink. Well, I really like it. I work it hot, then shape the bead, cooling and re-flashing the bead in the flame often. It acts like a striking color. AWESOME for sculptural work. DEEP violets, purples, pinks.

6. Carnelian. Don't encase it. Work cool, strike gently. Can get carnelian, deep warm pinks, etc. Don't overwork. Not necessarily compatible with the rest of the Effetre line of colors.

7. You are not the only person who cannot make boobs. Most of them tend to look like overblown implants. Sorry. Personal pet peeve. Keep practicing and remember NO ONE escapes the effects of gravity!! Also, try for smaller nipples. Most of the ones on goddesses look VERY unnatural. Take a look at the sculptures of some of the Italian masters (Bubacco) to see what a torso can look like. If realism isn't quite you thing, here are a couple of links to photos of Ancient Fertility Fetishes. Gravity was certainly acting on them!! They are figures of very large females, with huge breasts, yet the scultures depict figures that have grace and beauty. Their breast and thighs and butts are huge but not pneumatic.

thank you everyone! I am going through torch withdraws but my daughter is awake and so no torch for me. LOL
As for breasts- I dont really like nipples on them, plus it is hard to get them in the same spot on each breast especially if your breasts are lopsided. LOL
I can shape them ok (and I mean ok) in other colors but Raku ARRGGHH!

here is one of my recent ones

20727 I still need some work on them.
I will so play with the copper green and red copper green some more and hopefully I can get some of the dark silver purple next order. YAAAHH!
