While going through my tons of glass I found some white rods that weren't labeled.
I know that It is not CIM, and it is definitely not the normal Moretti or Vetrofond whites. I have a feeling that it is an odd of either Moretti or Vetrofond. This photo was taken on a medium gray background.

This rod has a grayish cast to it. Looks almost translucent and is when pulled into stringer, you can see the light coming through on the end of the stringer, but it strikes to an opaque white. Can you see the white line at the end of the stringer I pulled?
I know that I have ordered Vetrofond Odd New White, and Vetrofond Odd Cool White in the past, could it be one of those?

I think it's one of the Moretti opalene's (sp)

I appreciate your reply, but I am positive that it isn't an opalino or alabastro. This stuff is silky smooth and does not boil.
Add that to the fact that I hate the alabastros and opalinos and have never ordered them and I can pretty much guarantee that it is NOT one of them.
Any other guesses?

Nope. I've never even had any Lauscha. I batch anneal, so that would be a serious no-no.
Thanks for trying.

How about Efretre Anise white?
I second the Effetre Anise White.
I have a batch that looks like that.

I third the Effetre Anise White.
Or it could be an odd called Vetrofond Silk.

I know it isn't anise white. The rod itself is very smooth. The one rod of anise white that I had way back in the day was kind of rough. I have never really liked working with anise white, so I never ordered any more.
Vetrofond Silk... Maybe that is what it is. I have ordered a bunch of vetrofond odds over the past few years.
From what I remember it was a more grayish rod. I'm sure I have a small bundle somewhere. I think it was supposed to web easily. Although I could have just been boiling it and covering it in soot, lol. I haven't touched it since my first year and I did work things way too hot in the beginning. It would have been around in late 2004 or early 2005.

Since it's not a CIM colour, I would go for the Vetro Silk. Nice glass!

well, when I started lampworking and had no idea there were any forums... I just sent some little chips of my unlabelled glasses that i wanted to order to Frantz and they verified them to me, couple days later I had email where they told me the exact colors, and I went on to order some more of them. Handy, and good customer service!

Well, I pulled out some Vetro Silk this evening... if you weren't sure that it's not CiM, I'd also say Marshmallow, it looks more like Marshmallow than the Silk I have.
That said, the Silk does have a bit of translucency, and the rod I used wasn't shocky at all (yes, I'm now knocking on wood and crossing my fingers that it stays that way).

I have vetro anice white which looks very similar, is smooth and not terribly shocky.

There was a vetro odd just like marshmallow- something like Cool ice as a name?

I say a vetro odd like you mentioned in your first post, let me go look at mine to be sure which because I got so many odd whites and one is grayish and leaves that white end like you show.
954 white cool pastel is what i think, it's 'sort of' translucent and is 'grayish' and rod ends look like that, with the 'band' at the tip after being in the flame.
does this link work? you can see it's grayer than the 'new white'

Silk was called an 'opal'..so i would think opalino ? , would you have bought that since you said you were sure it wasn't?

I think Ravenesque nailed it!!
If silk was an opalino then that's not it either. I am positive that it is not CIM, so not cirrus or marshmallow.
I had looked at the Frantz site before I posted this question, but since the picture doesn't show the translucency and doesn't show the white band, I wasn't sure.
Thank you all for your help.
BTW: This glass is not shocky at all and is very easy to work with. I really like it. Up to this point, I have only used it in stringer form, but I think I am going to try it in a sculptural bead to see if it looks more translucent around the squared edges.

and if you are considering on ordering it more, I would recommend you send a piece of a rod to Frantz, they will tell you what it is... even if you wont buy more from them. At least you would know for sure.
Nothing is more annoying than ordering wrong glass... ask me how I know... ok, you dont need to ask. In Finland there werent at a time when I started any suppliers, so I ordered my first glass straight from the Effetre, minimum of 23 lbs per color... And all I had was the paper color chart to look at. I ordered 4 colors that were for no use for me. 92 friggin pounds of glass! I learned my lesson right there!

piakaven: OUCH!!
Hopefully you found a way to trade that stuff. Well, lesson learned. Just like the lesson that you should never give away the rod with the label on it.
Thanks for the tip about Frantz.

some of it I used as a base color, and encased with different colors, to widen my color variety, cause I wasnt going to order anything else for a loooong time. Some of it is still at my parents house, since I moved to US 7 years ago... everytime someone comes to visit, they bring some glass for me.

I had to order minimum of 230 pounds... so I chose 10 colors I used most, all others I used, were combinations of those colors. You get creative when you lack material.
