hola,
I have recently been invited to do some goblet colabs with some soft glass workers and am curious which glass is gonna be compatible??? System 96 is my guess, but i have no experiance other than boro. Ne advice, world be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
B
I have heard of people using "grading glass" to put 96 COE pieces together with 104 COE pieces. I have never done it, so I don't know much about it.

But, to answer your original question, it depends on what they mean by "soft" glass. Most beadmakers consider 104 COE soft glass. But furnace workers use either 90 or 96 COE glass and call that "soft" glass. But, in any case, unless the COE number is the same, it isn't compatible.

Yeah. Just check. There is both 90 and 96 COE furnace glass.
Oh, and be sure to get some pics of the finished products too...

Ill definetly be taking pics. Im gonna go at the end of may. The studio is in Edmonton Alberta, and im gonna be out there for the canadian glass confrence, GAAC, our equivelent of GAS i belive. I figured Id ask now and start practicing b4 i go there and look the fool playing with the "drippy glass". Its soooo differnt.

Actually, there are lots more COEs for furnace glass than 90 and 96. Your best bet is to ask them what they melt in their furnace.
Yes, you can do a glass mix of two COEs to join parts made from those two COEs. They usually come together in an avolio.
Also wanted to mention that COE isn't the only thing that determines compatibility. That's a common misconception. For one thing, COE doesn't remain constant through the working process. Viscosity is at least as important as COE in determining compatibility.
Have fun with your collaboration! It's really cool working with someone like that.
