I have heard of people using "grading glass" to put 96 COE pieces together with 104 COE pieces. I have never done it, so I don't know much about it.

But, to answer your original question, it depends on what they mean by "soft" glass. Most beadmakers consider 104 COE soft glass. But furnace workers use either 90 or 96 COE glass and call that "soft" glass. But, in any case, unless the COE number is the same, it isn't compatible.

Somebody at Wheaton village told me the glass they use for their furnace work is compatible with Bullseye - 90 COE, which is definitely considered "soft" glass. Perhaps a bit more precise to call it "soda-lime" glass. I was actually surprised to find out they use SL glass for the furnace work. I'm not sure what I expected - some sort of crystal perhaps.
