Hi everyone! The images I took last night came out fine. I was worried as I took them at night, with bad lighting and a flash. I really love my camera!

Anyway, here is the link to the tutorial. Please show me what you did with it, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Also, if you feel that what I showed is incorrect, etc. please let me know!

Cool tutorial and not at all how I thought it would be.
Thanks for sharing it!!!!

I was thinking that maybe you could also try this by fusing. Make long strips and then put them over one of those barrette molds (maybe something smaller) and then let them drape into a curve. That's honestly how I thought you made them.
Now if I can get perfect rings, I'll try this lol.
Gotta wait until the end of the week to try it though.

Reenie, I have added a link in the tutorial to my ring tut. See if that could help you with your ring making!

This is sooooo cool!!!! I'm wondering if I could just use my glass bandsaw or my ring saw to cut the glass. I'm pretty sure I could. But the hardest part for me will be making the actual bead on the big mandrel. Then making 2 the same size. YIKES!!!
Very nicely done! Thank you so much!

I like Ambers idea with the barrette mold too. But I may have a deep slumping mold somewhere in my pile of fusing stuff to maybe slump the glass for this technique. My wheels are definitely turning.

Jeanette, I do not have a band or ring saw. It would actually be super easy to cut it with that. since these rings is much smaller than the rings I normally make, I make 2 on one mandrel. That way I can sort of eyeball their size

Bethany, go for it! Just remember, the mandrel really need to glow pink before you apply glass to the mandrel. PM me if you have any problems. I love to help where I can.

Thank you Sadie!

Well De, get a flex shaft tool next time. You can get cheapie ones that is not pedal operated, but I must stress, the foot pedal ones really rock. You can fit all your 'Dremel' bits in it. I have even once used it to drill holes in a wooden shelve. The motor hangs in the air, and there is very little strain on your hand/arm.

A quick Google brought this one up: http://www.contenti.com/products/flexshafts/236-971.html

Thank you Donna. I found this Russian lampwork site, after I noticed a high hit count from them on my blog. The translation is not always clear, but where they had linked my tutorials, I could figure out that they told each other: Do not bother vith translation, images clear. lol.

That sounds awesome! I used to paint ceramics (never actually designed them but poured the molds etc) and the combination with beads is really just incredible.

Where did you get your ring mandrels?

Art of Hand
2010-10-25, 12:29am
Thanks Everyone! It is a pleasure!
Tammy, go to an engineering shop in your area, and ask someone to make them for you. You will save on shipping, and get sizes that you want! Just make sure they use stainless steel. I had to dump one set that was made with other steel. Pm me if you want more info.
Gloria, I had my ring mandrels made locally. Ordering them from the USA would have been too expensive, with shipping, lol. I have about 20 of them in 4 different sizes, as I make a lot of glass rings and big holed disk beads.
I know that a lot of glass vendors sell them, though.

Art of Hand
2010-10-28, 12:36am
I bought some diamond disk cutters. Although it cut the glass like butter in mere seconds, I also found that it chipped the glass. Luckily I cut about a mm or more from the edge. I would rather just use the disk cutter to smooth the edge of the cut surface in future. Every single surface I cut was chipped. I also could not work with the disk cutter under water ... which means that I had glass powder everywhere - not good!

Can't wait to try this. Wanted to add that Harbor Freight sells diamond disc wheels for Dremels. I just so happen to have some, yay!
