I'm having an issue getting propane to my torch when the flashback is attached. If I remove the flashback it works fine. I thought it must be the flashback, so I had the person I bought it from test it on another torch and they said the flashback worked just fine. I don't want to use the torch without the flashback, so any help would be appreciated.

Background on the current setup... I have the propane outside with a BBQ regulator (I've read on here that it should work with one of those). I've piped it through the wall (with a shut off on both sides). Then the flashback is attached close to the torch. I'm using an oxycon, and the oxygen goes through fine... no issues there. So I was thinking maybe a pressure issue, so I could try another regulator, but the torch is suppose to work fine with low pressure anyways since it is a GTT torch. Any suggestions? Thanks.

A flashback arrestor for welding gas is designed for much greater pressures than you have with your BBQ regulator. Generally a GTT torch runs on 5 psi for propane. (check your manual) Most likely your BBQ regulator is set for about 1/4 to 1/2 PSI. The reason the arrestor is failing is that it is not designed for low pressure use. The fellow at the welding shop is correct. The arrestor does work.

You can solve the issue by purchasing an acetylene regulator which will directly interface with your 20 lb propane tank. And setting the output pressure for 5 psi. Note: the flashback in the image.

It is not healty for your torch to run it with such low pressure. You want enough pressure to keep the heat off the face of the torch.

Thanks I'll try the acetylene regulator...

Lots of people using natural gas a 1/3 psi (11 iw) that will disagree with that statement....

Im a bit confused about the propane pressure. I have read that the best pressure for the regulator is around 10 psi and my torch recommendation is 5 psi. To complicate matters more I have read that keeping the psi around 3 helps keep carbon build up off the face of my torch. The recommendation for 10 psi says to control the propane at the torch. Can anyone provide some help.
Thanks
