View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Needing assistance with regulator and Cricket torch
Back in July, I purchased a used acetylene regulator from one of the members here. I am still a newbie when it comes surface mixed torch set-ups. Would someone be kind enough to tell me what the readings should be on the gauges in the photo below, for a Cricket torch? The Cricket will be on a 5 lpm oxy-con. Thank you!

The tank side will be in the range of 100 to 125 psi depending on tank temperature. The pressure could be lower if the tank is outside at 30 F. There are charts available that will provide propane gas pressure vs temperature.
On the torch side 5 psi is a good choice.
Enjoy the Cricket. It is a nice torch and runs well on one 5 LPM machine and even better with two machines.

Here is the procedure for installing your regulator.
1) Attach red hose to torch and close torch valve.
2) Attach red hose to regulator. Use a wrench to get it just past hand tight.
3) Play with the knob. Turn it to decrease the flow until it stops or comes out. While you're screwing it out, it might make a little click sound. This is when gas will stop flowing.
4) Close propane tank valve.
5) Close regulator knob.
6) Attach regulator to propane tank. Screw it as far in as you can by hand.
7) Open propane tank valve all the way. You should see a reading of 80-125 psi on the right gauge.
8} Screw in regulator knob until the left needle rises to about 7psi.
9) Open torch valve and light a large, yellow flame. The pressure on the left gauge will drop to 4psi or so.
10) Adjust pressure to what you want at regulator.
11) Turn off torch. Pressure will rise on left gauge, but will drop when you open the torch again. The reading on the regulator will be high unless gas is flowing.
Shut down
1) Light torch.
2) Close propane tank valve.
3) Wait for both gauges to drop to zero and flame to go out.
4) Close torch valves.
5) Back out regulator handle.
Thank you both very much!

On regulator to propane tank connection you may want to put a wrench on connection and get it a little better than hand tight..... Its a "metal to metal" seal and relies on being tight to make proper seal..
