The first post decided to post without me finishin my second sentence.
But anyways...you all talk about garaging your beads? What exactly does that mean?

I've made a decision on either the chili peper kiln or the original toolbox kiln...now just need to decide on these two. More money, one is preprogrammed.....<Sigh> My brain hurts
Thanks

I believe that means parking them in the kiln after you make them before you go through the whole annealing cycle.

Kevan is right. You hold the kiln at a certain temperature until you finish making your beads. That way, the stay hot and don't cool off. Then, when you're done, you just go on with your annealing cycle. Different people use different temperatures to garage their things.

garaging can also refer to placing an object in the kiln while working on the next step(attatchment,ect..) Keeping the first piece hot will allow you to bring it back in to the flame with out the horrible 'splodies.

Yep...the important thing is the temperature in the kiln...

if you are using it to keep an item hot for the next step, garage at or slightly above the annealing temperature of the glass you are working. If you are merely storing items in the kiln and finished with them, set the temperature to about half way between the strain temperature and annealing temperature.

For soft glass: about 900 degrees, for borosilicate: about 1000 degrees.
