I started with 10 grams of super unobtainum,10 grams plum krazy,10grams colbalt 2,30 grams clear.
Then I coated the clear with the colors,
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j287/Lbaylie/DCAM1197.jpg
Then Ipunty up to the drill, which has a piece of 7mm rod chucked up and good to go
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j287/Lbaylie/DCAM1198.jpg
Next its time to twist it up!! I get most of the glass glowin then squeeze the trigger. I let the punty in my other hand spin with slight resistance from my thumb. the glass twists up pretty fast!

I pull out and push in the punty to assist with the stirring. bending it helps as well

Way cool idea! Can't wait to try it...
I didn't come up with it thats for sure
Cool. I've heard a lot of people talking about mixing colors with a drill, but I couldn't figure out exactly what they meant. I've been doing it by hand (which sucks). Now I have to go find my drill...

Well, hopefully the box will go to you right before it comes to me. Then I can snag a rod of it before everybody else gobbles it up. :)

Right on!
I am sure it'll be gone before I get the box back, but hopefully I can recreate it w/ the recipe.
If I knew how many were after me I could throw in a rod for each. Any one who reproduces this color should post pics!! I like taking the butt ends that aren't allthe way stirred and balling them up and blowing them into the inside of a piece of 50x5 and then shaping that. Looks super cool.
Thanks for putting the recipe in this thread. Since I've already had the borobox, I KNOW I won't be getting any...
Hopefully I will have time to put together an actual recipe book soon, with pics and tips,

Another thing this is good for is making disco sparkle workable.
Coat a large diameter rod with disco, then coat with clear. Spin the bejuzs out of it then draw it down, wow smooth disco!!
I don't get it, you 'water' this stuff down and it looks even sparkleier(is that a word?). If you want a really cool color coat it in cobalt instead of clear on the last coat, this will give you 'DISCOBALT' mmm sparkles

Like I said I did not think it up, just thought I would share.
Chayes, would you mind sharing some recipes to use with this tech.? I know there are folks out there that would like to make their own colors from scratch. Thanks for any info you feel like sharing:waving:
Yes - that would be interesting. I used to really like mixing up new colors with soft glass, but haven't done much mixing with boro yet. I'm still trying to figure out what the colors on their own will do.
I like mixing stuff too...
I haven't pulled ou the drill much lately, though.
I did today, and made a nice salmon color - GA Jasper with Silver Strike, one of my favorites. I guess it ends up sort of like Momka's Carribean Coral, with more tan.
Sounds nice. I haven't worked with GA Jasper yet. Or Momka's Carribean Coral. Or most boro colors, come to think of it...

What ratio?
I don't know... I'm not looking for precision so I just kind of wing it.
Sometimes silver strike 3, sometimes 5, so that affects it a lot.
I would say theres a lot more Jasper than Silver Strike... maybe 2:1 or 3:1 Jasper to SS.

Its cool to see the drill busted out.
Mixing colors sux, something i don't wanna do again. Unless its mixing color rods together. The list of chemicals i used are in contemperary lampworking As for formulas i just played with mixing differnt combinations.
I thought mixing colors from scratch would be fun until I read the warnings associated with the coloring agents. Then I thought about those powders floating around (I do have ventilation, but the powders would still float around.) Then I thought about the gasses released as I mixed at high enough heat to incorporate the color into the glass. Then I decided that I could be very happy just mixing already made color rods together!

Look at the 'disco is dead LONGLIVEDISCO' thread.
To get discobalt add cobalt before the second layer of clear, then mix just the same.
