If you are using a paint brush, make sure you label it for that use only. It can contaminate other things. Let it dry after you are done and vent the kiln to 1000 degrees and go to another country. OK, the smell doesn't bother some people but to me it smells like burning sweaty gym socks that someone wore for 3 weeks without changing. Some people say they can't smell it at all so go figure.
A little goes a long way and it doesn't come out looking gold at ALL. Sometimes you have to look at it in a strong oblique light to see it. A Kemper pen is really cool for applying little dots and lines and the cleaner that Hanovia makes for cleaning is the best, but a good turpentine will work too, just put a little in a seperate jar so as not to contaminate the turp. You can use it on things you want to slump too it'll cure at the same temp as a slump. Depending on what you like somewhere between 1150 and 1250 depending on your kiln. Don't use it on anything that will come in contact with anything acidic. Lemon juice, flux for soldering, etc. and it will last fine, but may show wear over time.
It's very pretty and totally worth it but I wish it didn't smell so bad!

Yes, when you're finished or in between if your brush becomes too clumpy/gunky.
