When putting the propane tank outside, are there any special precautions as far as where to place it (out of the sun? what about the temperature changes?) Do you have to disconnect from the torch and the tank each time? Is there any recepticle the tank could be put in to insulate from cold and heat?
thanks for any help on this

Roy,
I think some use a rubbermaid container to store their tanks in. As I understand it the flexible hoses are to be disconnected each time and the black pipe stays fixed.
But, I've been wrong before and I'm sure someone will correct me if this is another time.

Nancy has it basics correct....
If you are using a rubber hose to connect to outside tank, you can only pass it (hose) through a door or window opening, and must be removed after a torch session as it is considered a "temporary" situation. Obviously you need to turn tank off.
A permanent installation would be metal piping installed through a wall, with this situation you would have a shutoff valve on end of metal piping inside studio. Safety dictated you need to shut off "inside" gas valve at end of session. A secondary safety precaution would be to shut off outside valve on tank also, but not absolutely necessary.
As for protection of tank.... Nothing needs to be done... Tanks sit out in all types of conditions around the world without harm to them... If its a matter of appearance, yah, you can put them inside a "beauty" enclosure as long as it is vented at bottom so any leaking gas may escape

No, you've got it correct Nancy.
If you use black pipe through the wall, you use flexible metal pipe to connect the rigid pipe to the tank.
