For those of you who may not have already seen this, great pics of doing an implosion on tubing.
Enjoy!

Toni, or anyone,
I have tried this tutorial and love the effects! However, I have tried and tried, but I keep getting air in the lens when I pull the tube off. Does anyone have any tips for avoiding the air bubbles?

I had that problem too - what I learned to do is focus the flame right on center of the front rather than on the edges. This way the glass flows from center out, rather than edges in and the possibility of foldover (catching bubbles) is greatly decreased.
works great that way for me - give it a try!

Oh - and let's SEE!!!! :)
When you are separating the piece from the tube, heat the area where the tube joins the piece really hot. Then, put the open (cool) end of the tube in your mouth and blow while pulling the punty away from your mouth. This will thin out the wall and blow it out into a ball. Then switch to a very small flame, and heat a spot where the piece joins the tube while blowing. When it gets hot enough, you will pop a little hole in the tube. Then you can use that hole as the start of where you tear the tube off. If you leave too much clear on the lens, just spot heat it and use a clear rod to wipe the excess glass off.
Or if you get that trapped air, you can focus a pin flame at the center of the bubble and spin the snot out of it and that should open er right up.

Thank you, thank you all so much for your tips. I will try this tonight. I looked at the tutorial again and I missed that part about blowing as I remove the tube. I will try it! Thanks again!

I tried the suggested methods last night and it worked great! It sure makes a difference in the clarity of the lens! I have to admit that I did play with the "bellybutton" pulling it open to make sure it didn't close, entrapping air. However, I'm not sure that was necessary. Thanks for the help!! I'll try and photograph this weekend so I can show what it looks like.
That's a whole different subject! Now, I need to read the posts about photographing! It's neverending!
