I just got my Chili Pepper in today...Can anyone tell mw how to do this?
I am using Moretti, Bullseye and Lauscha.
I stay up late and bead so I don't want to leave the kiln on over night so I'll probably batch anneal most days. Can anyone give me step by steps on how to program each of these..
Thanks
Irene

They all use the same annealing schedule.

OK by the time I typed this out someone else gave you the answer. Sam

These programs have worked great for me and my chili peppers
Making beads moretti and bullseye -same kiln -different beads -same run
Ramp 1 = full( that means go up as fast as you can to the temp)
Temp which reads F o 1( well kind of) = 968
Hold 1 = however long you are going to work say 5 hr = 5.00
Ramp 2 = full
Temp 2 = 968
hold 2 = 1 hr=1.00 (this is the hold time for the last bead in so everybeady gets happy
Ramp 3 = 150(this tell it move at 150 degrees and hr)(the 1 hr is in the program you don't have to tell it that)
temp= 350( down to this temperature)
hold =0( so turn off when you get to 350
Now I use to use 650 as my cut off temperature but now I make more complicated beads with more delicate decoration and varying depth so I let it come down slower to 350

Now for batch annealing believe it or not you can use the same full ramp to 968
If you really want to be careful you could tell it to ramp 485 to 968 but it really isn't necessary if you do the math. Which I will never do again Hate math.
Anyway ramp to 968 hold 1 hr come down the 150 to 350. Same program with out the working time hold.

Oh and as far as leaving it on over night. So far no disasters. but you can again do math. If I start working at 6pm and work till ..... the 1 hr hold + 4 1/4 hr the kiln will be down at.........

Does your chilipepper have the new green faced Orton controller? If so watch it the 1st few runs some of them have had a failure code problem I think from heat. Orton will make it right I just wonder how many have had this problem. Hope that helps pm me if you need to. Sam

I'm pretty sure it works the same.

Sam (or anyone else), do you know how to clear the programming? I want to completely wipe mine and start fresh (long story).

Irene,
The Bartlett is a great controller and has been around for ages. You should try to read the book as it really pays in the long run to be able to program it yourself and you may have different needs than someone else!
To date every teacher that comes to the studio uses a different program!
Also you dealer should be able to help you! If they actually know how to program it themselves!

Thanks everyone for the tips. I have the manual and it doesn't really explain anything in plain english. That's why I figured that someone else with this annealer and controller could kind of explain to me in english what i can't seem to get from the book. I am a very visual person or hands on. I love to read and I read well and fast but reading tech stuff just doesn't get through to me. If I am reading stuff that I don't understand, makes it very overwhelming and then I just don't use the equipment I have...
If were all using the same glass and all plug into the same wall outlet with the same power...I figure the numbers would be the same.
The original bead annealer that sells for a bit more had the controller already programmed for moretti and bullseye glass. I didn't think that it would be that difficult to program....It's probably easy if I was shown how to do it instead of reading about it.
Now I'm not so sure and maybe if I can't figure this out...the original annealer might be the one I should get. So that's basically where I"m coming from. Gonna try and call the shop that this was purchased from and hope he can give me notes over the phone since I won't be in front of the annealer when I call....We'll see what happens.
I was just really excited when I got the kiln in and I wasn't expecting it soo soon and you know how it feels to get a new toy and not be able to use it.
It kind of bummed me out:-)

But Irene you are not all making the same thing and that's where the differences will be in the programs!
Sorry you had a problem. Mine do go out with easy to follow instructions.
So far no one has had a problem! Paula

LIke I think I said..before lol..can't remember now...if you are using Moretti there would be a set up for moretti....etc..etc...
I Know that Don McKinley and others send out their annealers already preprogrammed. So if they do that for their customers from all over..then I thought, it would be a standard thing for everyone to use. But its all good!

Someone sent me an article written by Lori Greenberg that helps with programming the Chili Pepper annealers....Actually doing a batch anneal now sooo we'll see what happens.
Now I can read what she explained each segment was for and use that as a reference with the one that came with the annealer. It helped to understand the tech stuff that I didn't before.
Thanks again for everyone's imput and sorry if I confused some as well. That was not my intention!

Hi, Recently I have seen a chili pepper in a class situation where people were poking there mandrels into the fiber blanket at the back of the kiln. The back of the chili pepper was a mess. Just thought it was worth mentioning that all you do is lay your mandrels inside the annealer. I also know some people put a rod rest in their kiln. The Chili Pepper is a great kiln, and the first one I bought. I have an Arrow Springs kiln now too, but didn't have the foresight to get the 4 inch doors(only 2 inches high) Glad I had kept my Chili Pepper , I use it for annealing marbles, and I can run a different annealing cycle for them.

I found the article you spoke about :
http://lorigreenberg.com/pages/chilipepper.php
if it can help !
But somebody could explain to me what is the number 1400 on the first line (Ra1)
1400° F ? it's seems to me a very hot temperature for Effetre /Moretti annealling !
What is my misunderstanding ?
thanks
