Who was wearing her caregiver BOC beads at the Fairview Hospital on the U of MN campus! She told me that she really cherished her beads! They were lovely, too.

That's great to hear. I know that our caregivers here in Atlanta wear their beads all the time and really appreciate them.

It always makes me smile to see the Nurses and Child Life Specialists wearing their beads. :)
And sometimes it's bittersweet. When I did a workshop for Survivor Day recently, one of the nurses was showing me her special beads she picked in remembrance of her patients who had passed. It was a very touching and emotional moment and you can see how those beads really help the staff as well as the patients.

I got to hand out the new origami crane bead (a wish for peace, healing and happiness) and they were so excited to receive them!:love:

The Origami Crane bead sounds so interesting, is it made out of glass or paper? Can you post a picture? I might be able to make some if it's folded from paper or fabric but I wouldn't think it would be durable enough for BOC.

Brenda, the cranes are cast in pewter and made especially for Beads of Courage due to the large numbers needed. BOC can always use your one-of-a-kind Act of Courage Beads though! Thanks for the support and the willingness to help. :)

Who do I talk to about submitting a bead design to for review and hopefully adoption as a caregiver's bead? When I visited the local hospital BOC coordinator to learn about our program up here she mentioned that the nurses didn't have a bead design for them to pick so they just picked an animal. But the nurses would really like their own bead.

I am new to this site ... I would love some more information about your beads of courage. I am an R.N. and previously worked at Boston Childrens Hospital where I coordinated the Malignant Bone Tumor Program. All of my children had cancer of the bone and most had amputations of their leg or arm. I am retired now and I design and bead Murano Glass Jewelry. I go to Venice, Italy every year, rent an apartment and buy my beads. I was taught by a very famous lady who designed and beaded for the finest shops in Venezia. This is truly exciting for me to find you ... one of my dear friends in Venice who is a magnificient beadmaker sent me your link.
