Okay, I can make murrini but I can't get it on a bead right. I've made white stars in black. When I put them on the bead and melt in, the black closes up over the white - how do I get the star to stay star shaped once the murinni is put on the bead? I'm guessing a dot of clear on top but then do I have to encase the whold bead to keep it looking smooth?

Detailed instructions are here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261224

You pre-heat, make a hole, place the murrini, then finish with a dab of clear. Not too hot.

THanks, Jan. I'll have to look at the detail on WC when I get home. The govt office where I work has WC blocked as porno.

Linda, just spot heat where you want the star, (warm the murrini through the flame quickly while you have it in tweezers) and quickly push in your murrini and then push it even harder with a small spatula so that it's flush, then quickly heat to smooth. It's a pretty fluid motion once you get used to it. If you have to heat the murrini before it's flush, wait about 3 seconds, touch the murrini with no pressure with your spatula to cool the outer layer (this prevents distortion) and then push. The less you heat the murrini the better results you'll have.

Ah, that may be part of my problem. I have not been pushing it in flush, so I'm getting the effect that the Japanese beadmakers when they let it roll over on itself as it melts in...nice effect but not what I was looking for. Thanks to all. I'll give it a try tonight - I'm trying to make something for the owner of Shooting Star Gallery who has let me have a whole window wall for my finished stuff.

Here's some snaps of my little corner of the gallery.
