Hello! I gave a demo today for a high school art class. It went ok, I was nervous and my hand was shaking... it was impossible to put even dots down... thankgoodness I had bead sets with me to show them.
anyway... the class was using a bead release that I'm not familiar with, Pink Slipper. I didn't have luck with it. I was flamedrying it, and it had a tendancy to flake off easily. Also, when I attempted to encase a floral the bead broke away from the release when i was pushing the clear to the mandrel holes. I wasn't tugging that hard.
any opinions on what I can do differently? (like take my own release next time) LOL..
I'm thinking because they're students they need something that's invincible... like I've heard Foster Fire is. (although I love bucket o mud)
I found a few threads with Pink Slipper and only one was positive - does anyone have any specific experiences?
thank you!

Hi Steph,
I used the Pink Slipper bead release and I had no problems with it. I also made large flower beads with a thick crystal layer on it and it didn't broke away.
Maybe the release got to hot as you flame dried it, than it can be that it flakes away. Use it in the back of the flame to dry it and then try again ;-)

Didn't matter whether I flame dried or allowed to dry overnight, it still flaked. If this had been my first release, don't know if I would have loved lampworking so much. Not only did it flake, but once that happened the entire coating started to give.
Very occasionally I have chipped a piece off when using bucket o mud. My fault - hit the mandrel too hard with a tool. Amazingly, even with a nick in the release, the bead held all the way to the end.
I abandoned the pink slipper and don't ever intend to give it another try. My studio setup is in the basement. Could be I have too much humidity for this brand. I still think it's just thick kiln wash - but that's just my opinion.
Bet the high school students had fun watching!

Thanks so much for the feedback... I heated the beadrelease till it was slightly glowing, but never kept the heat on it.... the pink turned more white.. is that too hot?
Maybe it was the weather too...mmm

After two day of trying Pink Slipper (flame dry & Overnight dry) It popped at me and hissed! I returned it to the store!

Hi Steph,
it is normal that the pink will turn into white, this doesn't mean that it got too hot.
I just ordered another few bottles of this release for my store. I did not get an negative feedback till now.
But I'll agree with you: if something doesn't work - the weather is always a good reason ;-)

I tried the pink slipper and just could not get it to work right. It would flake and pop off no matter whether I air dried it or flame dried it. I swithced over to foster fire and seldon have any problems with it.

thanks so much for everyones feedback. It may be there is something about pink slipper and I'm not using it correctly.
Since I have a bead release that I really like - I'm going to recommend the one I know and stick with it. I took some small jars of Bucket O Mud with me to class yesterday and left them so the students could try it. It will be interesting to see if they have any success.
Take care!
