How to construct a rose cane???

Hi Everyone,
I am fairly new to glass bead making. I was wondering if anyone could explain what a rose cane is and how it is consturcted. Are the large small? Help lost in the flame and can't find my way out.

Hi Ann!

If you mean the type of cane used for creating "spiral" stringer roses, all you really need to do is to encase an opaque color with a transparent color....white with rubino is pretty standard, but you can do all kinds of combinations. Just encase a rod of white with transparent and pull into a stringer. Then you just need to lay it down in a spiral. The transparent will keep the opaque from melting into itself and give the rose definition. The cane is easy, but it takes a bit of practice laying the stringer into tiny spirals! ;)

Do you want to make a rose murrini? Here is a pic of one if this is what you mean you can let me know and I'll try to explain it to you. It is one of the easiest murrini to make IMO.

Ok no problem, it's been at least a year since I made one so I'll have to think about how to explain it a bit. I'm off to work right this minute but will try to get something down this week-end ok? Thanks for the compliments. And really, as far as murrini go the rose is very simple, esp as you don't have to make a bunch of components and put them togetherit is made just by building it up and casing it.

Another question from the bead challenged. I made a rose cane. I used a milky white vetrafound and a really dark purple as the color. I striped the white rod. I pulled a stringer( I think it was to thin). I put the 4 dots down, melted and covered with a transparent colore. put 4 more dots down. I used the stringer to plunge and twist, but got a goey mess. Anybody have any suggestions.
