View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Thinking of a new tutorial: my color recipes

Inspired by some of the very pretty tutorials out here, I was thinking about making a new tutorial with pictures of my favorite beads & the color recipes I used to create them. It will not be about techniques, but about design & colors. Of course I will also tell if a silverglass has to be struck and/or reduced, but that's it.
I'd like to investigate if there's interest? It could be a nice booklet to keep beside your torch for inspiration & ideas.
If you'd like to take a look at my beads, you can find them HERE (www.flickr.com/anoukjasperse)
Please let me know how you feel, thank you !
Of course we want this :)

I would love for you to add a murrini recipe to the tut ;-)
Those on "cosmos suprise" are amazing. Heck I love them all.

omg: I just saw "Raspberry Sky" from a Sept post and it is breathtaking. I hate I don't get to read LE every day. Sometimes it's weeks between quick updates.
I love all your tutorials and of course want more!!
thanks

I did want to include some of my murrini recipes in the tutorial as well :). It won't be about the "how to" on making a murrini, but just the colors used.
I'd better get working on this one, I guess :).

Yes, yes and yes, Anouk!! This sounds wonderful, but I have to agree with Jacqueline—a tut showing how you make your wonderful whirlpool beads would be great too.
I'm always ready for a tutorial from you, Anouk!

LOL Jacqueline, no not yet. It's quite scary to find out that you have over 4000 pictures from beads to choose from :hide:...
Whirlpool beads will not be in a tutorial just yet, I need some more time experimenting with it :).

* Snake Skin Beads *
I used Reichenbach 96 Iris Yellow since I had a pound of it. It's thinner than the average rod, maybe 2-3 mm.
1. Green frit - I used several colors of green frit, in sizes varying from powder to size 2. Select your frits and mix them together in a heat safe container (or whatever you normally use when you're using frit). I go heavy on the bigger frit, and less on the smaller sizes. I only use a smidge of powder. I also threw in a pinch of iris blue frit too.
2. Heat your thin rod of Iris Yellow in the flame - You're going to make a very thin footprint on the mandrel. Wind the next round directly on top of the footprint, and so on and so on. I keep winding till the gather is about as big as a quarter.
3. Heat just the outside rim until it's glowing orange and roll it through the frit mixture. You'll have a skinny bead with an outside rim covered in the frit mixture.
4. Carefully re-heat the bead before you begin to shape it. If you stick it right into the flame it may break because it's so thin.
5. Slowly melt it down to a bead size. That's it!
The snake skin effect comes from the frits melting and stretching as the base Iris Yellow melts down into a bead. PM me if you've got any questions. Now go make a snake skin bead and lemme see!

I just called the bead snake skin, they were indeed made with my own mottle/mosaic shards :).
This might be a bigger project than I realised :D, but lots of fun! So it will take some more time than I thought.
Meanwhile, some people asked me about my Angel Wings and a tutorial on them...

I'm always interested in your tutorials--I have bought all of them. Your first tutorial helped me get my very first success with silver glass. Thank you!
