Has anyone tried melting white glass plates?
A friend who runs a housewares store just gave me some cracked, plain milk-white plates - a European version of the glassy "Corelle" plates made by Corning.
Can I handle these like sheet glass - cut strips and melt?

If they are Corelle then they are close to ceramic than glass, but experimentation is always fun.
Pre heat it and give it a try. Problem, though, is that you dont know what the annealing temp range or strain point is so how can you come up with a schedule? Might be cool to try but I wouldnt do much of it.
be careful, it might blow up in your face while heating.

There are two products attached to the "corelle" name in people's minds:
- thin plates made of a glassy milk-white pyrex type glass. This stuff splinters like glass.
- a thicker, more ceramic-like material. This technically a "glass ceramic" material, and fractures more like ceramic with a dull inner surface (probably what Dragonharper is thinking of).
I have a European version of the glassy stuff.
Thanks to all for the input - I think I'll heed Larry and Harry's comments and pre-anneal first.
