An announcement from Mike in Italy:
Effetre has come out with a new clear that is much better quality than what they had before! They did this by changing the formula slightly and by using new rollers.
As you may already know, when the glass comes out of the machine it travels on metal rollers as it cools down. These rollers become scratched over time and this causes scratches in the rods which trap air and dirt that cause bubbles and other undesirable effects. With new rollers the glass is unblemished as it moves.
Mike took some of this new Effetre Clear (591006) to Mario, a lampworker on Murano, who gave it a workout on his Barracuda torch. He used enough heat to purposely create bubbles, scum and all the other bad stuff that beadmakers don't like. However, when the glass cooled down it was "simply irresistible": no bubbles, no scum, no distortion - just beautiful, clear glass.
The same test was then done on the old style of Effetre Clear (591004) and before it even cooled they were already able to see the bubbles and scum.
In the final test Mario made a paddle from the new Clear and then applied silver foil on it. When it cooled down it, too, was PERFECTO!
Mike was so excited that he bought all 1,000 pounds in 5-6mm and is having it airfreighted to Frantz this week. It should be ready for sale shortly after it arrives.
The retail price is $14 per pound and with discounts it can go as low as $9.10 per pound. Mike said he is very excited about this glass and knows that American beadmakers will be thrilled to have it. However this first production is limited and it will take Effetre another two months to make their next production of this glass. Frantz Art Glass will have 1,000 pounds air freighted and it will arrive within the next 2 weeks, so you need to order now if you want to get some of this wonderful glass. The stock number is 591006 (http://www.frantzartglass.com/go.asp?ic=591006), which is the same number as an old "super formula" that Effetre came out with years ago. But this glass is really "super". There is a 5 pound limit per customer because Mike wants as many customers as possible to get some of this very fine glass.
So order your limit now, because it will be gone before you know it!
