These are so bright and vibrant. Made with Momka's Sunset Orange and Paula's Purposeful Tortoise frit. (Hi Paula :waving: )I managed to capture some sparkle with the frits. And notice that beautiful Orange... one rod of color provided both yellow and orange.. I think I have to make a whole set of accent beads with this color and encased in clear... would be soo pretty don't you think?

And check out this Magic Mirror with Purple Haze. Love what the sun does for these. Both pics are the same bead.

Shari... I just scheduled a class at Glass Axis in Columbus (I think), for next year. It's the first weekend of April or May. I'll have to find that derned calendar to know for sure. Is that close enough for ya? I've had to put my teaching schedule on hold due to family restraints. Kids these days... they need supervision of all things. ;) I really really appreciate your kind words and interest.

I've got some newer ones to show soon. I'm super stoked about getting into a real life Gallery... it's put a fire under me for sure.

well "fourmi" is an ant and "cigale" is a cicada. In France, the ant is like the people that are working hard and the cicada are the one that are singing or dancing. So I say that I'm working as a secretary (ant) in the day and playing with glass (cicada) in the night.
I'll come back with new work on the we

Dang Brent! Those are all beautiful, but I really like the squiggly ones. The last one reminds me a little of a piece I did in sterling silver that had a center stone of Maw Sit Sit Jade. I think that you have a real winner with that squiggly design....Kind of organic, tribal, but sleek and modern at the same time.

Do we get to see any more of your pods anytime soon?

Did you write an artists statement?

I've tried... I just can't seem to get it. I'm not good at fluffing myself. Would you do it for me?

I was thinking:

"I was born in the Florida Keys. A bunch of stuff happened and now I'm here having a blast, melting glass."

hotflashwanda
2006-05-26, 8:12am
Brent, that's an awesome group of pendants! Tell me it's not really a sperm, like Jodie said. :-)
An artist statement doesn't really have to be about fluffing yourself. I was an English teacher in a former life and taught people how to write all sorts of things. I'd be happy to help you come up with a brief artist's statement. I helped a few people write theirs for the glass artist cards that came out last year.
Shoot me a PM if you want. All you'd have to do is be interviewed a bit.

Hi everyone. We have been busy getting ready for a local arts and crafts show this weekend (rain forecasted for all three days!). This week I was inspired by blue exotic rod and Momka's rhapsody in blue (called to buy what was left at the 50% off sale at Auralens). It's funny how I can put beads in the kiln thinking they will come out as masterpieces when I know they will look very different on their way out (practice, practice, practice). Thanks for sending the frit Paula - I got to try a bit of the red and teal but will have more time to play with it when we get back.

The majority of people (women 30 - 60) who buy the jewelry we make from our beads seem to want earrings and booksmarks (make also in pairs although not matching) - we make bracelets and necklaces too but usually only sell those at "higher end" shows. So....now that we have a lot of matched and unmatched pairs I'm going to give myself the opportunity to create larger sets and to try some new things.

This was the best photo I could take of the batch I made. Have to work on my photo skills too. Anyway....thought I'd show you what I'm doing. My next thought is to make Japanese float beads (the floats are collected on the western shore here) and lavender beads for our Lavender Festival in July.

LAG- I could probably reproduce it, but I know I won't. I am horrible at getting custom requests done lately. I'm in creative mode right now. I'd hate to say yes and then have you on hold. It's ELY, turbo, then white with turbo and finally caramel dots imploded. Try it and see what you can come up with. ;)

Oh Carrie those are so pretty!!!

I am still really strugling with boro, everytime I think I am on to something the beads come out totally different. I think that is what skills are all about, knowing what colors you will get when making something.

I only know what I get when using dap:D and that is about all. I am having a real difficult time with blues and greens, they just don't pop the way I would like them to .

Hi Suzanne. Believe me - I know exactly how you feel. My suggestion is to try to find someone who can work with you even if it's over the internet or by telephone because I have spent so much time struggling alone when I didn't have to. When I began working with glass I was told that I'd have to start with soft glass (which I did) and then when I was ready to work with boro made the mistake of not taking a class dedicated to boro thinking I ought to be able to figure it out - so a class, or mentor would be a good idea.

I do know that I've been following the strategy of putting the beads in the kiln when they are really hot and letting the kiln strike them (not flame striking at all) by putting the temperature up to 1150 for 20-30 min before returning to 1050 for annealing - and have had better luck with color. I have also noticed that if I paint the color on clear boro and twist it you can really "see" the color more and it's not so dark - It would probably build your confidence to try some "tried and true" color combinations that lots of people like (like a ruby color covered with butterscotch frit or triple passion and clear - I made earrings out of Momka's rapsody in blue for the craft show this weekend and everyone loved the colors and bought them all). There are a lot of posts about other color combinations people recommend (you can do a search on wetcanvas.com in the art glass section and you'll find them)..... How about it everyone? Any other suggestions?

Genny
