I notice that some people are using REALLY tight and WIDE twisties on their beads. For example, Andrea Guarino (my hero!) seems to be doing it a lot lately. I also see a lot of it done with a light opaque and a thin strip of black.

Here is a pretty good example of what I mean: http://cgi.ebay.com/Andrea-Guarino-TEMPLE-OF-ANGKOR-lampwork-bead_W0QQitemZ150015452979QQihZ005QQcategoryZ34070 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I've seen many others use this technique, too.

How do you make these very tight twisties?#-o

Heat it a little hotter and twist it more.

Check out Kim Affleck's seahorse twisty tutorial in the Tutorials forum here on LE. Use any colors you want to make it, but the technique for actually twisting the cane is a great way to get it really tight.

It's heat, timing, and speed. THEN, to help them along, you can twist some more as you're applying the twistie to a bead. Just watch which direction you twisted in, or you can "unwind" your twistie. (Yeah, I did that. LOL)

And you can also get that delicate detail by using thin stringer to stripe on the black color, rather than rod (or store-bought fat stringer). If you use stringer, you will already have a delicate black line on the blob, before you heat, pull, and twist. But Cos is basically correct: twist faster! [chuckle] Oh, and don't forget the dreaded Practice Makes Perfect.

Hi Lori!
Thanks for the compliments!!!!! Check out Kimberly's tutorial, it is great! That is pretty much how I do it!

Take care,
Andrea

Hey Lori-O. I learned how to make my twisted cane tighter in Michael Barley's class. Come over sometime and I will show you the technique!
