supposed to look any different from Kronos?

I played with them for the first time this weekend. I have a bead that I know I did with lines of Kronos and dots of OR, and they came out the exact same color. It's a beautiful blue, so I guess I can't complain, but it's exactly the same.

For the rest of the beads, I can't tell which ones I did with Kronos and which ones I did with OR. I was mostly playing with Kronos, anyway. I'm a sucker for the blues.

(In case it makes a difference, it was on black, encased.). I was pretty pleased with my results first time out, but I could use any tips anyone feels like handing out.

No tips because I've had very similar results. I'm not complaining either but I would love to get the purple out of Olympia Rain. . Yummmmm!!!!!!!!

I am having a problem with my encased ones cracking. A definite imcompatible crack also. I use Lauscha and Vetrofond super clear and have had the same types of cracks. I'm afraid to sell any of my Double Helix glass beads because of this. They may take days or weeks to crack but they do. I've only had a few sucessful keepers. Most of my pressed beads have bit the dust. I put them in the kiln super hot. Sometimes to the point I leave blanket marks on the bead but to let them cool too much is almost a guaranteed breakage. Is there something very important I'm missing here?

I haven't tried the Olympia Rain yet so I'm not sure about how similar they look but thats scary about the beads cracking! I haven't had that problem with kronos, but I just use it in stringers. Maybe you should try that?

Which lauscha are you using? It may be an incompatibility between the lauscha base glass and the vetro clear. The DH may have nothing to do with it. I hear that lauscha hawaiian purple doesn't play well with other colors.

I'm having excellent results, check my auctions right now, I have three things up featuring Olympic Rain.

Olympic Rain LOVES dark Ivory, Use it with that and you will have immediate results. (I'll also fess up to the fact that it is awesome with raku).

Trick for me is to make my base, encase or decorate with OR and then bring the bead in and out of the flame until I see the reaction starting.

It likes to cool off a little before flashing it back in the flame for results.

Good luck!
Keep playing, I promise that the results are worth it!

That's the weird part. My base has been vetro. black or moretti ivory with DH stringer decoration and Lauscha clear encasing. :???:
I remember reading that Harriett was having a similar problem I believe. Maybe she found the problem and she'll chime in.

Lauscha clear cracks with everything. lauscha has very big compatibility problems. I can encase lauscha WITH lauscha and it cracks. The vetro super clear worries me though as I am just about to try OR and KRONOS for the first time ever and I will be using super clear with it.
Any other colour tips would be good!

I use the super clear exclusively with the Double Helix glasses and have never had any cracking that was not my own fault for keeping it out of the flame too long.

I even batch anneal over a period of 2 or 3 weeks, so under the blanket it goes over-night, then god only knows how much petting and handling it gets before going to the kiln....and never had a crack!

Do you put your encased Lauscha beads directly in the kiln?

I must be some sort of Lauscha goddess as my beads never ever crack. Maybe one here and there, much less than one bead/month and I encase a lot! I love Lauscha clear and have to force myself to make beads that aren't encased in clear...

What I am doing right???

I use ONLY lauscha clear and I BATCH anneal and I haven't had problems. Maybe the question is where are you getting your lauscha?

I also use only lauscha clear and I batch anneal also. No cracking due to lasucha, ever. Been doing it for years. Now Kugler clear, that 104 stuff? Cracks like a #$%$#%@ unless I only use it with Kugler clear.

I've used it just fine with OR and Kronos for quite a while now, still have some of the first beads. No cracks.

Well, I buy my Lauscha direct from Glass Daddy. Vetro. super clear from Frantz or islandglass so I know everything is as it should be.
My concern comes from the "type" of cracks I'm getting. Definite imcompatibility breakage. Even if I only get one bead that has an incompatibility crack then I worry over selling any using the same glass. Kinda stinks since I've invested $100 in the type that is giving me problems.
BTW~ I have been encasing with the same batches of Vetro. and Lauscha for the past year and didn't have this problem until I added DH to the mix. :?:
