Can someone tell me how I can tell if my lentil bead shaper is a Carlo Dona? I bought it from a reputable dealer but there are no distinguishing initials or marks. Thanks for any help!!!

I don't believe that one came from Carlo Dona's shop.

It could be the photo is not doing it justice because the picture has artifacts that give me the impression it has been copied a few times.

Don't misunderstand me it looks like it works just fine however I just don't see the same quality of workmanship that Carlo Dona makes.

Also I am pretty certain that nothing leaves Carlo Dona's shop that doesn't have a prominent makers mark.

Can't help in identifying it, but I can say that I bought a Carlo Dona straight crimp from Frantz that has no distinguishing marks or initials, I trust Frantz & believe it is a CD tool, so not all have a makers mark!

I think it's a Carlo tool as well. It looks heavy and robust. His tools are extremely durable.

If it isn't an actual CD, it is still very comparable imo.

I would be suspicious if I know why Carlo Dona tools are such expensive.
A few pix for comparison.
Have a look at the seamless transition where the steel meets the brass.
It seems always so smooth.

I'm no expert but your tool does not look like the professional work of Carlo Dona.
I would send the photo to Carlo and ask if he made it.

They're friendly and they speak english.

I didn't think that Frantz sold Carlo Dona Tools. It is my impression that only Spiral Arts could sell Carlo Dona tools in the US.

It was a used tool they had at the ISGB gathering booth, not something they ordinarily sell I believe :-)

Carlo Dona didn't always have the prominent markings on their tools like they do now. I know this for a fact as I talked to Roberto about it in the recent past. I had a bellflower press with no markings on it. Sent him a photo so he could see. It was theirs. Just an older tool.
That tool does not look like a Carlo Dona tool. Their tools are perfection in every way. That tool is very rough looking. Not up to CD standards at all.

Frantz did sell Carlo Dona tools long time ago (at least it had the portecana for sale back in 2007 if memory serves), probably before Spiral Arts had the exclusive arrangement.

You can always friend Roberto Dona on Facebook and ask him.

CD tools is a multigenerational family business. Made by father and then son. So that could be something to note as well.

You`re absolutely right.
I think it is an older one of CD and by the time they have more and more perfected their skills and the working of their tools. First I thought if it could be possible that someone else has solder togehter with a handle from CD? But in between I think that would be very unusual.

Lots of photos and help here but it seems the OP is not interested or too busy to say thank you. :-k
