So today's issue with the torch setup- blech, I'm wondering why I thought this was fun??- I know the propane goes outside, I have a hose through the window and the bbq tank is sitting behind my holly tree so it's not visible from the street but still has plenty of air around it. I have a big rubbermaid container on it's side, surrounding three sides of the tank and the lid cantilevered off the top to keep rain off (is this enough for ventilation and protection?). Outside looks ok. So I go to hook up the hose to the torch, and I'm sort of stumped as to the best way to DO this and then attach it to the table. The torch screws on the end of this floppy, twisty thing the goes on the table HOW? There's a metal thing (sorry I'm not more technical) connecting the rubber hose to the threads of the part that goes to the torch, but it seems to me squeezing on that with a hose clamp is not the best idea, since couldn't that mess up the connection? Getting the hose clamp tight on the rubber part of the hose seems maybe a bit scary- will the metal edges compromise the rubber? 'Cause the hose is all kinky, and wants to twist all over. So now I'm thinking the hose needs to be stabilized in more than one place. I was going to just attach it to the same 4" bracket I had the little tank attached to with a mending plate to extend it higher than the table top. Well, THAT's not working either. If I bolt the plate to the bracket, I should use the hose clamp to put the torch/hose to the plate? It won't get real snug even if I did tighten it up (since I'm confused, re:above, I haven't tightened anything up), because the clamp has to be big enough go over the larger metal threaded part and it won't get any smaller when it's at the end of the little notches. So, duct tape? Then how do I unattach it to take it outside to let it hang so the gunk doesn't build up?

Am I just overly dense in this department? I didn't think it was going to be that hard. And now I know I need to have a better ventilation thing going, since I don't have baffles or anything. I just don't want it to look totally bizarre from the street, which it's starting to. Can I set up something like the plexiglass shields they're talking about in the thread about torching outside for demos, or do baffles need to attach to the range hood? I'm thinking it needs to attach to the range hood, which is temporarily venting out the top of the window with the wrong flexible hose. Which will not work in the winter, because it's hardly airtight. Right now I have cafe curtains and moveable fans and a valence that makes most of the oddness not visible. Before anyone worries, the curtains are on the other side of my table, which is 3 feet wide, behind a cookie sheet I have propped up to give me something dark as a background. I swear I'm ready to kick the kids out of the tv room and just start all over in there, street presence (and nintendo) be damned.
