Hi guys.

A long time ago, from a place far far away, I received an RAOGK of frit samples from a special B'AaAaAahhhh kind of lampworker. Then, not long after that, I became frit addicted.

I especially love this one that said Red-Violet on the ticket, but I can't find anyone selling a frit called Red-Violet, and with so many people selling the same frits with different names I am not having any luck at all with the random "Maybe this is it, I better order it" process.

The last one I bought looked just like it in the pictures, but it isn't even close now that I have it in hand. I still love it...but it isn't what I hoped it was. The red-violet does something very special that I haven't found in any other glass and I just gotta have it.

Nikki, or anyone else...if you are out there and remember where you purchased that frit, or where I can get some of the same in disguise I would be awfully grateful...ribbit.

It is transparent, Kalera. You wanna trade? I know you aren't big into frogs, so I can do ya a jelly or some flowers. Or maybe you would like the northstar rods sampler I have no use for???

It truly is gorgeous in its own right...but I love it most for its reactions. Will check out Olympic and see what I can see. Thanks Paula!

Yeah, they have both R-99 red-violet opaque and R-50 reddish dark violet transparent. I'm about to place an OCR order, so Mary, if you want to try some before you invest in 1/2 kilo, let me know which, and I'll send a baggie to you.

OK cool! I'll just send you some and you can see if it's the stuff you want. Does this look *anything* like it?

The R99 is pretty for sure, but what I am looking for is transparent. I am thinking I'm gonna have to place an order with Olympic anyway because they have a LOT of stuff I have been wanting and I could get it all in one place. ESPECIALLY if they actually have this frit I'm lookin' for. Thanks for all your help.

Shoot Kalera, I don't know for sure. LOL It looks different when it is all ground up. All I know is that if you use it on white...it is this color:

2256

In frit form, size about 1 I think, it looks like a frit mix of ink blue, intense fuschia and some other purple, maybe even some cobalt (but you know it isn't what the colors look like after it is used...it just looks like that as frit??). I will see if I can get a color match picture.

OK, here is the picture of the frit and it is pretty darn close on my screen.
2257

Thanks for helping me!

I'll go ahead and order the reddish dark violet size #0? Size #1?) and send you some, and then you'll know... and I'll have a new color to play with either way. :) Kugler also has a reddish dark violet (K-50) that might be it, and Hot Glass Color carries Kugler frit in small jars as well as kilos: http://www.hotglasscolor.com/

That could be fuschia or one of the heliotropes. If you have some left you can send it to Olympic and they will tell you exactly what it is. (I've done this and they did!!) Paula

The people at Hot Glass Color are SO SO SO nice and they have cane too! If anyone figures out what that was for sure, please post it... I am adding the Reichenbach to my order anyway just in case, but if it's something different it would be awesome if someone could tell Mary, I know what it's like to have a mystery frit and it sucks eggs.

My last guess was some heliotrope, which was very pretty...but it wasn't it. It was a lot warmer of a shade. Nor did it have the same reactions I was looking for. I am having fun with it though, I have a bead listed on eBay right now with heliotrope as the base. When I ordered it I really thought I had found my red-violet, but I knew as soon as I opened the package that it wasn't it. It is awesome that Olympic will check a frit sample!! I love that kind of customer service. What is in the picture is all that I have left...about a teaspoon at most. If I knew for certain which one it was, I would order the 1/2 kilo and not even blink...or I'd at least go halfsies with someone. I'm sure I'd never use a 1/2 kilo in my lifetime. LOL

Kalera, it is awesome of you to send me some samples. This really is frustrating. I've been hunting for it for about a month on my own before I ever even made this post for help. I went and checked out Val's site, but it seems like it is kinda hit or miss. So far, she hasn't had anything listed as red-violet whenever I checked. I would guess, that it originally DID come from Val. I only say this because the other samples I received in the gift of frit used some of her unique color names. (raku jitterbug, ocelot spots, etc.)

Val does carry Red Violet and it is labeled intense 94 coe #1 on the lid. It looks a lot like deep purple in the jar. Saying that I will have to try it to see what color it turns out. Peg M

I just checked her site again and I don't see any listed right now. Should I be emailing her personally and asking if I can still get it? I've never ordered from her before.

I do see she has something called 'African Violets' that looks right...but some of these are so close it is hard to tell. :-k

Thanks Peg!!

edit: I just remembered that I HAVE ordered from Val before, it has just been so long I forgot. I ordered a large jar of copper blue and it got here in like 4 hours. LOL (At least it felt like it was that fast)

OK, even though Val doesn't have it listed in her store right now, I did find it listed in her PDF frit reference document. It is exactly it! Named red-violet and shows the right color when worked.

I have emailed Val to see if she has any for sale or if she can tell me what the color numbers are so I could order it somewhere else. Not sure if it is a mix..or a single color.

Mary,
Val Is really great when I have e-mailed her in the past about a color of Frit she did not have up on her website at the time. She had a few bottles laying around. Not enough to put up, but she did sale me what she had. It wasn't something that was just a normal color, but a blend she had made herslef which meant I couldn't get it anywhere else.
This may be the problem you are having also.

I hope you find it, I hate the mysterious frit problem. I have looked trough all my colors and even my sample bags. I don't have anything that looks like that. Except two colors, but they don't turn out to be the same colors when struck.

Hi guys! What a bunch of sweeties!

I received a lovely email from Val, but she doesn't have any on hand. She said she could order more for next week though! I probably will go ahead and get some from her, but if you guys are looking to unload yours, I will gladly buy it from you as well. I don't believe I could have too much of it. LOL I don't use much of it in a bead...but I plan on making lots of beads with it.

Kalera, if it isn't too much to ask after all this frit talk, I would still love to get some wee samples of the frits you mentioned. That way I would know if what Val is calling red-violet can be had in a larger quantity under a different name. If you aren't going to end up ordering it...don't go through trouble on my account.

Thanks to you ALL for being such a great and generous group!

Mary the african violets is more of a blue purple compared to your bead . It is absolutely lovely but that is not the purple you are looking for. Val does have a gold purple listed and that looks exactly like the frit on the picture!
