Yes, I spelled it wrong...lol...first cup of coffee and all that :D Anyway, I've got a woman who wrote asking me about using her Nortel mid-range with an oxy con. She currently uses bottled O2 but is tired of always needing to get them refilled. I don't know anything about this particular torch but I thought it was a big one. Will this work with a 5L oxy con?
Edited to add: Duh! I forgot we had a torch section on the forum...sorry, can someone move this for me?

LOL! Yeah, I tend to be thick as a brick first thing in the morning :D You'd think I'd learn...
I am feeling alot better now though :D
No, it won't work well with one concentrator. Maybe 30-40% or so. I run one on two 5LPM 8PSI concentrators and it runs maybe 85-90%. Plenty for hollow work, but not ideal for solid work.

I have a midrange torch and run it just fine on a 5ml oxy con. I've been told that it shouldn't work, but I've had my current setup for years and never had a problem.

I'd be very interested to see how large of a flame you can get with just the one concentrator. And, what kind of concentrator is it?

I have an Invacare 5 oxy con. When I bought the torch and oxy con I did NOT know that it wasn't supposed to work. I just didn't know any better. I feel lucky that it worked out. Here's a picure of the flame I get.

Yeah. That's less than half of the flame the torch is capable of. Should be fine for soft glass, but at that level I would imagine the purity would suffer.

Could be! Aside from my own, I've never seen another Mid-range up and running. It's worked for what I do and I've been very happy with it. My sister runs a smaller torch and I definitely prefer my own to hers. I haven't noticed that her flame gets better results than mine. It just melts the glass slower.

I borrowed a concentrator from a friend (AirSep) to try with my Midrange, and it was.....disappointing. I use an Onyx+ generator and it's terrific. There's a new unit out, the Regalia, offered by the successor to Paulette's Suncoast (Kimberly is the new owner). The numbers look very good. I love my Onyx, but if I were buying again I'd definitely nab a Regalia.

Thanks you guys, I will pass this information on. Sounds like she should add a second oxy con unless she is only working smallish soft glass pieces. I'll also let her know about the oxy generator.
