My husband wants to set up my ventilation system without putting a hole in the roof. He wants to vent into the attic of the garage, right overhead from where I work. I'm on a Cheetah. Now is the time to go punching holes.......we are re-roofing the garage. Can anyone tell me if it's otay to vent into the attic? And give me details of why not to or why it's otay. I prefer to vent outside, but maybe I'm wrong. I have been occasionally.

Do not just vent into attic..... You contaminate whole attic with heavy metals that will never have chance to dissipate and also full it with the gases from torch combustion (nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide) and it will find its way into all parts of house... IT will do exactly what you dont want, CONTAMINATE whole structure. It has exact opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish with ventilation.
Proper ventilation is getting everything OUTSIDE, where gasses can be diluted by natural processes and heavy meals can be broken down by nature....

As long as you are re-roofing the garage, punch the hole straight through the garage roof. The exhaust stack should extended higher than the peak of the garage roof to ensure that any wind will catch the exhaust plume and carry it away.
Also be sure to use the same diameter ducting all the way through the system from fan to the end of the stack.

THAT'S what I said, Mike. My husband is just worried about the resale value hurting, but a hole in the garage roof is an easy fix. Now I have 2 men backing me up on this one. The "men" part is important to my husband. *sigh* Thanks guys.
