I have a HotHead torch and am using the 1# disposable MAPP gas canisters...I remember reading somewhere that there are larger disposable MAPP gas canisters...How big are they, like 3-5#'s?...Does anyone use these?...
Thanks...
Hi Eileen,
You can use a bulk tank, like a BBQ tank, with your HH. I live in the Midwest and I use Chemtane. It burns very clean, unlike the propane. Check around at a welding supply company for this tank. Believe me it is much better than using the 1# canisters. The bulk tanks do not freeze up like the cannisters and are very cost effective. Make sure you get a good hose for the connection to your HH.

Mine was 7# and worked great. No more freezing up. Used 5 foot hose on it. gayle

Is Chemtane the name of a gas or a company?...I'm confused...I thought you couldn't use straight Propane?...

You can use straight propane...just need to buy a hose conection from welding supply or you can order it online...I used a propane tank 30pounds with Mapp gass..I have a welding supply co that carried Mapp Gas..which is just propane with an additive added to it to make it hotter...They even told me that its not that much hotter than Propane..so you can use just propane if you want...I have heard other beaders use just propane..look for the tuts on hotheads...there is alot of info...

Chemtane is the name of the gas. It burns cleaner than straight propane. I am using a BBQ tank of Chemtane with my HH. I have a 10ft hose that I bought at Tractor Supply to hook it up to the tank & my torch.
Good luck!

I use FlameX with my HH. I have a BBQ tank and 10 ft of hose. I've been happy with it so far... dreaming of a bigger badder torch...
