I have never had an oxy tank that won't open...now I have two tanks that are STUCK! I can't open either one. Does anyone have any tricks to get the darn things to open up?? It's a beautiful day here and I want to play!! Thanks!!

Are you talking about the cap thingy or the actual knob to open the air flow? If it is the cap I give it a little wack with my plyers and that usually works, if it ithe other I go get my DH LOL.

It's the actual knob. I always have to bank on the cap a little! lol...oh, this is so frustrating!! I'm home all alone!

I'm gonna PM you :)

If it's the cap that's stuck I stick my channel locks in the cap hole and give a twist. I put the tank up against something like a wall, lean on it and turn the locks. Sometimes I have to bang on the end of the channel locks with a hammer to get it going and that usually does the trick if all else fails.

oops! I was writing while you were posting. so...nevermind. LOL

Like Mark said...if you have a pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench big enough to grab the knob in line with the floor enough leverage should do it.

Do you have one of those flat circular rubber things to oper jar lids? If not, maybe a rubber glove would give you a better grip?

Try a strap wrench, you can get them at Sears. I keep one in my studio and another in my lab at work. They are great for opening both the safety caps and the main valves on tanks.

LOL! I'm glad you got them open. Between trees and tanks I didn't know if you were going to get any torch time!

Go make cool things!
