Just a different Idea for Frit Storage:

I have a workbench with a long drawer under it ... in another life it would hold your tools.

For me it holds my frit.

When it is closed, my frit is protected and "put away"

I have most of my frit in the flat CD tins, I write the name and size and type of frit both on the inside bottom of the tin and on the outside top.

The are shallow enough that I can roll the bead in it with out a problem ... use a little cappachino spoon to move the frit around.

They actually can hold almost all of one of vals jars ...

What I end up with is a "color pallate" of open tins of frit ... I have the lids to put away and stack the non-favs but this way I can change my mind and mix frits and just play away without trying to "open" the jars all the time and without "having" to use the little spoon (and another hand)

Here we go ... blurry and quickly taken, but you'll get the idea!

With the Drawer Closed - Frit is protected from unintentional frit while working

With Drawer Open - A veritable Smorgasboard of Frit Options!!!!

A Close up of how the bead fits in the tins while working

2742

A Close up of labels on the INSIDE of the tin (so you can see what you are working with)

2741

A few "sample" beads reminds me of the color characteristics -- these are teeny, tiny, but makes it easier to see the difference between the frits (ex .. mood swing and cherry blosom look similar in frit form, but very different; or Glow looks one way in the frit form but is very different when worked)

There is even room for my shards and silver here!

Hope this gives some ideas! PS you may want to find a "bulk" supplier of the tins ... this system kind of grew haphazzardly and when I add up the cost of the tins being marketed as "wedding favors" and the number ... I should have just ordered in bulk.

I am working on picture stickers for the tops with both beads and "frit" pictures. I am also working on an organization scheme to label the sides (like a "dot" of color) so that I could use a standard CD rack for my "extras"

I like it! If my frit were half as easy to get to, I'd certainly be using it (them) more. Very nice!

I love it! That is so smart, but I do have a question , doesn't the frit fall out when you open the drawer ?

What do you mean?

If you are asking whether the frit "slops" out of the tins, no (I am not opening it that fast ... don't forget I have molten glass in one hand!)

Or maybe you didn't realise the sides are almost 3/8" tall

One of these tins will technically hold a full jar of Val's frits (although I prefer to work with only half the jar in there)

Aha! I thought those tins where small, and was affraid if you open the drawer the frit spills out ( I would be stupid enough to really jerk it open, and have a frit-shower)

Suzanne, what a visual, ''frit- shower'' !! I love it!!!

Corinne, great idea! If I had the space, I would think about using your idea. For now though ,I'm happy to have found the 'frit and spin' from Melissa..I love it! =D>
Here is a link for those that want to see it. ;)

AHHH,, it looks like a big compact full of eyeshadow!!!
That's cool. Great idea!

Now if you just recess the tins to where the top of the tin is even with the drawer you would exactly have a frit-compact.

Bump because of the thread in the family room of "ok, I admit it"
