I got a used major. I bought a cleaner to clean it and the cleaner wont poke thru all the holes. Do I have to get a new head or can I clean this one. It has the minor on top . I am planning on using it when I get in my new house. Can someone help me. I took the tip off the minor and its ok. I can see thru it.
I think there were some ports blocked on some of the majors, weren't there? I seem to remember reading something about them trying to tighten up the flame or something like that. I could be wrong, though. Where are the blocked ports? It might be a matter of having to actually hook it up to find out if it is a problem. Hope it's ok!! :)

Gosh, where do I start... It may depend on your cleaner, is it a Nortel torch tip cleaner or one from the welding shop? Either way it should slip easily into all spaces. I'm not sure what you mean by "going thru all the holes". You just want to insert the cleaner straight into all the holes and spaces, round holes are oxygen all other spaces are fuel, and pull straight out. It helps that you have the oxygen on when your doing this so the carbon build up doesn't fall back into the ports.
You said you pulled the tip off the minor... tips don't come off of minors, sounds like you have a premix top which really doesn't work well with soft glass but great with hard glass.
Good luck... feel free to PM me.
Cheers, Larry
Does the wire only go halfway down about every other hole? That's normal IIRC. If the ports the wire won't go all th way down are in a symmetrical pattern, don't worry about it; if they are random, don't force it; just wait until you get it hooked up and see how the flame looks before you worry. :)

Yes like Kalera said you cleaner should at least go in the hole a bit. If not the cleaner is to big.
The round o2 holes you should be able to go deeper. but the holes between the round tubes it will only go in as deep as the brass gasket where the 2 halves of the head go together. about a 1/2 inch.
If it goes in most of the holes but there are some radom ones it won't poke threw they may be cloged up. The you need to try and carfully work the crud out and clean them. Useally if a port is clogged up you will see it when the torch is going.
