Hi I am a college student looking for any info on lampworking now or in the past and any recommentations of people I can research for a seminar that is soon to be done. I have watched a demo of the work and wish to take it up now myself.
My knowledge is zilch
I have been told I can use a microwelding torch, which I have 4 jewellery making. Can anyone tell me if that is so. It can reach anywhere up to 2-3 thousand degrees depending what substances are used in it. It has a fine flame 4 jewellery work and interchangable nozzles, or a recommendation of a good torch for a small workshop. Thanks, any help appreciated, Silver

First of all, I can't believe no one has answered you yet!
Second, as far as lampworking info, google is your friend. There's just too much info to go into here. If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to answer. There are aslo books you may be able to find in the bookstores and online. www.frantzartglass.com has quite a few books also. Not to mention the info on this site.
Third, unfortunately, you cannot use a torch like that for working glass. It's too small and generally not hot enough.
A good torch would be a mini cc made by Carlisle (`$170.00 plus hoses, gas, ventilation, etc., etc., etc.). It's an oxy-fuel torch. The cheapest is called a hot head, it's a single fuel and has it's draw backs but it's definately fine to get started with for now.

Before you decide to do this, read everything you can. There is MORE than enough info right here on this forum. Look at the Safety and Tips & techniques forums, etc.

Hope this helps!
