Help! I'm suddenly getting spam messages as guestbook entries. Is there any way I can stop these. I know I don't have to activate them, but I get an email each time someone signs in, and I'm pretty sick of reviewing several of these a day. My website is through Pappashop if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Kathy

I've been getting a ton of these also! I like the way they all say "please don't delete" at the bottom - as if!

Probably the only way to stop getting them is to deactivate the guestbook. I just delete all the emails then I delete the entries in the guestbook admin area.

Yea, I loved the "please don't delete" too. Deleting is the least serious thing I'd like to do to people who send spam!

I'd deactivate the guestbook. If folks want to get in touch with you, they can send an email. If they are leaving testimonials, you can list them on a static page that only you can edit.

IMHO, guestbooks just aren't worth the trouble.

I get at least 4 or 5 of them a day.. Filled with links for viagra and acne creams and such.. I have no idea how to stop but if you have a pappashop website, I believe that in their email update they said something above an upgrade to the guestbook to reduce the amount of spam that we get.

I don't have poppashop but to stop the spam in your guest book I recommend password protection. You can even put the password on your website. It cut my spam by 90% at least.

Hi,Donna from blackberrybeads.com has a comment option but when you add the comment it does not show till she approves it..or some such thing...Perhaps you could ask how her comments option is set up..? Sorry this is happening to you. It's such a nasty thing to do to ..

Those of us that have Pappashop websites have protected guest books.
We have to approve any guest book comments prior to them appearing on the site.

I believe Kathy already has this. I think what she thinks is annoying (and I do too) is the number of emails she is getting from the spammers. Each time someone writes a guest book comment we get an email that contains the contents of the comment. If you get a lot of spammers you get a lot of these emails. I just delete the emails then I go to my admin area and delete the actual comments - they never appear in the guest book.
