Hi,

Right now I am using a Minor with 2 concentrators and I am looking to get a little more heat. I like to make big beads and sometimes it seems I am melting in glass forever. I got a chance to use a Lynx yesterday and wow, what a difference in the amount of heat. (I was on tanked O2 not concentrators.) What I am wondering is can you get more heat out of a Lynx on the concentrators than you can with a Minor? I have heard that the Minor is a bit of an O2 hog, but I don't have any good information about that.

I would love any comments from those who have had experience with this sort of set up.

Thanks,

Melissa

Actually, you have it reversed. The GTT torches use more oxygen than Nortel's do. I don't know if I would go so far as to call them 'hogs' though.

GTT torches do require higher starting pressures for oxygen - usually in the 10 plus pound range. They (GTT's) will always do better on tanked oxygen (with it's inherent higher pressure and pureness) than on concentrators. This will be true for most of the current generation of torches on the market.

In my opinion, if you want more heat, get a tank of oxygen and crank up your pressures, both on propane AND oxygen. This will give you a hotter, more penetrating flame, which you can't get with a concentrator.

A Lynx will run quite well on two concentrators. You will love it! I get a better flame with my two concentrators than I do in a class sharing oxy tanks. I have plenty of heat for anything I want to make in soft glass and relatively large boro beads as well.
