I been making fumed beads lately and wanted to know if you soak them in coke will the fume come off? Any help appreciated! :grin:

Yes, I believe the fuming will come off. Why not encase the fuming in clear ??

I DO encase fuming with transparents sometimes, but, unlike boro, it is VERY difficult to keep the fume once you have cased it. Further heating and shaping can cause it to "disappear" rather easily. In addition, the effects from cased fume differ greatly than some of the effects achieved from fume left on the outside. Just my 2 cents, for what ever it is worth.
Below are examples of cased fume and fume left on the surface. Note: These beads were not fumed to achieve a metallic surface. I wanted simple color effects. The sets are made with spot cased fumed areas and the other threed beads are various colors of glass, fumed with silver with random applications of reduction frit and stringer.
Will fuming come off with Coke? Sometimes. It really depends on how long you soak the bead and how heavy the fume is. The color changes in the glass associated with the fume will probably NOT come off.
