BE & Uroboros have fine commercial stringer available (www.howacoglass.com sells both, as does www.bridgetownglass.com/). Any other glass and you'll have to pull it yourself.

I'm thinking shipping super skinny stringer would be a nightmare but it's really easy to make your own. Just heat up a pea-size ball of glass and, after taking it out of the flame, grab it with pliers and pull FAST. Most people start out pulling their stringer way too thin, which is why I say it's easy to do.

How funny, that is the only way I can make my stringer....skinny. I haven't figured out how to make it thicker! Mine come out so thin....maybe I should go into buisiness....LOL!
Just practice and you can have lots of stringer so much cheaper than buying.

After you melt your blob, wait 2 seconds (1 thousand 1, 1 thousand 2) then pull slower than you usually do. You can adjust the size by the speed at which you pull.

I figured out if I used a mandrel to pull my stringers, instead of my usual hemostat thingees, that with a slower even pull my stringers come out close to the same diameter of the mandrel. Heck I think that's the only reason I ever use "any" of my thicker mandrels. Using the hemostat thingees I get my usual super skinny stringers that I use ALOT.

I've never seen fine stringer for sale, but I could send you the 3 inch deep mat of stringer that covers most of my work area if you want!

Super fine stringer would probably be easier to work with if it was encased? I'd add a blob of clear to the mandrel, a little bit of color, cover the color with clear and stretch and make your own super skinny.
But I'm stringer impaired, I'd have to do it that way.

Tracy, can you explain that agian? Usually I pull mine from a rod. How do you pull from a blob on your mandrel? Never heard of this technique before and I may have to try....
thanks

The tip of your tool will also affect the size of your stringer. A larger tipped tool will grab a fatter blob of glass. Don't pull too hot or too fast. And when you pull, Keep the heated blob higher than the stringer being pulled (pull slightly downward and away from the blob). Heat rises and will keep the blob hotter a while longer allowing you to pull a little longer stringer.
