Hello,

I'm looking at getting a torch larger then the GTT Lynx and and interested in the Nortel Red Max for a number of different reasons.

The torch comes either with a chooice of a top mount surface mix Minor torch or a premix torch.

What I wanted to know is which top mount torch would be better the surface mix or premix?

Funny thing is I have a National 8M torch and the premix adapter and some tips that I used to use before my GTT Lynx. The flame is hotter then then my first Nortel Minor Torch, but besides that I don't notice anything different between a premix torch or surfacemix torch.

You don't say what type of glass you're using. If you're doing predominately boro I would get the premix top. If it's an even combo or mostly soft glass I'd get the surface mix.

That is the same answer I came up with, but the thing is I'm not 100% sure if it will be more boro or softglass.

My guess is either more boro or an even mix.

Now what if I through this into the Mix. I still have a GTT Lynx and Nortel Minor torch. If I get some quick connects I could quickly swap out the Red Max torch for one of these other torches.

Now would you say that this swings in the favor of a premix top torch on the Red Max?

If you're willing to do that, I'd keep the Lynx for soft and configure the Red Max for hard glass.
